I have vps' with Aruba.it, and they have some fairly cheap offers.

Hi Matthias, it has happened again, but with a post which as been pending since we talked last, and edited repeatedly afterwards, but probably also earlier.
I don't think, therefore, that it'll give you any new information.
The post is:
https://historywalksvenice.com/translation/iconoclasm-paul-the-deacon/The status transition log has numerous "pending → pending" entries, for each time the post has been edited, which I have recorded from 2026-07-30.
Later today, I'll duplicate the post and re-publish to get it federated.

I'm not at the computer now.
Is there any wah to see if a delete request have been sent? Some posts have an "activitypub_deleted_at" meta field with a timestamp, but not this post.
~~I've tried duplicating the post with a new id, but no cigar.~~
Copying the post and re-publishing with a new id did in fact work.

It's been a draft, then pending, finally published.
I use pending for posts which a ready, to be published later.
I've been scheduling posts with at(1) lately, to avoid those problems, publishing with wp-cli.

@pfefferle but it seemed to be pushed to followers, as there are lots of requests in the log. They don't seem to accept the post, though.

Hi Mathias, I have a post published this morning, which appears to be federated, and I have requests in my logs from instances, but I cannot see it anywhere. I've tried to go to the instances that asked for the page, and they don't display it even if they asked for it and got it with a HTTP 200 response.
Everything seems normal, but it's not displayed.

I just tried with a copy, keeping the same url, but a new post_id, scheduled, not posted directly, and it doesn't appear on Mastodon.
I looked at custom fields, and expected to find a bunch, but there's only one for AP: activitypub_status=federated
Anything you'd like to see from the post?

Did a test post of the same post type, without scheduling, and it federated immediately.

I publish in this way every few days. If it repeats, do you have a check list of things to watch and do?
I think I messed up this time by poking at the post in all sorts of ways, without a plan.

Is such a request associated with an URI or with some other identifier? If I copy and publish, do I need to change the post slug?

I read somewhere that if you unpublish a post, a request is sent out for its deletion, which will prevent it from reappearing later.

It didn't federate, and I tried lots if thing on my phone, as I was out and about.
Do you mean the delete request discussion?

The last two posts on @info haven't federated, and I can't get them to.
I've tried editing, saving, clearing caches, deleting custom fields, changing federation settings and what not.

This heatwave is very annoying. Here in Venice its like tropical heat because of the humidity.

I agree with you, Aral, but I can see how we got here.
The EU wanted to regulate chargers, and all cables do charging, so in that situation the cable wasn't an issue.
Now, with much fancier cables, and especially because they do contain electronics inside the plug, such a cable also becomes e-waste. It is not simply a set of wires. It is in its own right an electronic device.
So yes, we need regulation so we can see which cable does what, to reduce e-waste.

Would the EU intervene over a product not following an industry standard, if there's no health or environment risk involved?
USB is an industry standard, not a law in any jurisdiction.
In fact, the owner of the standard, USB-IF is based in the US, not in the EU. Ensuring standards compliance is not a task for the EU in this case.

That's the producer going cheap, only wiring half the required connectors.
We can fault the EU with much, but not this.

I ended up labeling all my USB cables.
There's at least a dozen variations, from charging only to all internal 25 wires fully connected.
Obligatory markings in USB cables must be next.
