> Our dark-skinned ancestors in Africa began migrating northwards from Africa about 70,000 years ago. As these people moved further north, they were exposed to less of the sun’s UV radiation, and their D-vitamin levels in the blood dropped. This gradually impaired their immune system and made them more susceptible to infections. The evolutionary effect was that individuals with slightly lighter skin had better health and were the ones best adapted, and therefore passed their traits forward. Over the millennia, this led to light skin becoming an evolutionary advantage, making the people who settled in the northern hemisphere gradually become light-skinned. The USA is a shining example of this observation, where the health status and lifespan of the African-American population group are much lower than that of the white population.
Tl;dr, I just realized something: The universe is out to get all of us, and if old straight white man is the only thing you see in it, maybe it's a you problem.
Female cute is looks, boobs and that wild, yet well-arranged hairdo, and none of that "I'm telling you something in the abstract and you just have to trust me". That's his job, making promises that he may or may not be able to keep.
@alex I'd love to put my life together this way again. But I know it'll come back when the kids are older. Also I can't really call the time I spend with them unproductive, though. They might just be the only project I've ever put together that's really going to hold, and they give me a reason to stick with them through difficulty, unlike software, which I tend to forget about and move on to "my next bigger thing"...
@Viking Okay, excuse me. I have no idea about Chinese. I put
"I'm in the Chinese room" into translate, and got back this. I think you're doing very well with interpreting the three characters, all I can tell is that I don't have the patience for a serious study of the Chinese writing system and/or languages.
@Humpleupagus@Tony > If a sufficiently motivated, unscrupulous person can put themselves into a trusted position of updating critical software, there’s honestly little that can be done to stop them
Well du-uh, since that's also true for any closed source setting...
@p@Brycicle I think that's what makes a good shipost. It needs to be *close* to the original subject, inconceivable if you're not catching the word-joke/misread of "salman" and "stallman". And then, the trope presented in the top post - the "non-current-thing"/"current thing"/"anti-current-thing" trilemma is kind of pointing towards that things discussed should be off topic. So I was somehow on topic by being off topic...
