There's an actual theory around due to Alcubierre that results, iirc, in the ship not actually moving. Space sort of moves around it, but faster than light. The ship itself always has a low velocity & basically glides around in a space bubble.
I haven't seen it & won't, but your remarks about the shiny surfaces remind me of Star Wars & how everything clean, especially floors, is always connected to villains. Good guys don't clean or have anything new or shiny.
I guess it's a matter of trying to look futuristic & high-tech. In the 1960s, a panel of rocker switches, backlit buttons & oscilloscope-like screens looked super high tech. In an era where everyone has a shiny smartphone & a 4K TV, they have to keep upping the ante.
I haven't installed Linux in a few years & never Mint. I'm sure others know better. Your laptop is probably not a 64-bit CPU (unless you're sure it is). So you probably want "compatibility mode." Or a 32-bit installer.
So Jadzia says in DS9 that she (as Curzon) negotiated the Khitomer Accords. But that was part of the plot of "The Undiscovered Country." So Curzon Dax must have been around during the events of that film. Yet in "Trials & Tribble-ations," she acts like she's never seen Spock before. She says he's, "More handsome than I expected."
Anyone familiar with this? I guess it can be explained, but maybe there is an explanation (eg, I'm misremembering something).
