It feels like the conversation around "AI" LLMs has reached an inflection point in the past month or so, and I suspect it's no coincidence that the studios caved to the Writers' Guild strike shortly after.
@inthehands@mcnulla I mean snark aside, AIs seem to show genuine promise in *identifying* patterns rather than *generating* then (e.g. reading mammograms). I assume it could have useful potential as a diagnostic tool in business as well. But CEOs will have to adapt to this new normal by finding ways to differentiate their offerings from an algorithmic application of MBA principles and oh darn there's that snark again.
@inthehands People will complain endlessly about the DMV, but in my experience the people who worked there have been pleasant, competent, and only as slow as the people across the counter from them.
@silverwizard Yeah I didn't attach any particular meaning to the line when I read it in like 2008, but it really reads your way today. I hope it earns the chance you give it.
@silverwizard I don't think I can/should save Sandman for you but I have some thoughts.
To your question, you're referring to "That is a woman's tale, not told to men?" I'd never thought of it that way, but that's a fair reading.
But yes, we are supposed to judge Morpheus harshly for this and it is the beginning of the long arc of him realizing what a shit he's been, and trying to fix it.
As for the shock stuff, that's worst in the early issues. I think [contd]
@silverwizard ...Gaiman starts out very consciously mimicking Alan Moore's Saga of the Swamp Thing, and Moore's writing is pretty heartless. The one diner issue is by far the worst. As Gaiman gets more comfortable writing his own story, Sandman largely leaves that sort of horror behind.
Is anyone in the Philadelphia area looking to adopt 1-3 adorable boy kittens? We foster through Philly PAWS and we're starting to look for a forever home for the Pumpkin Spice Gang, shown here. (Picture is somewhat deceptive; they rarely hold still long enough for a picture. But they are very snuggly.)
