I've been thinking about an emerging issue here on the #Fediverse, and I would like to suggest we solve it collaboratively.

Civilians in #Gaza are trying to provide food, medical treatment, and basic necessities for their families. They can't see upfront who would be willing to support them here on the #Fediverse. They can't stay silent either, just watching their kids and vulnerable family members suffer.

So they add long lists of recipients to their posts, and maybe also sent direct messages to a long list of people.

Some recipients feel helpless, because they're already donating. Some people get upset because they do not want to receive a stream of direct messages.

Let's use a ""#hashtag" (to be determined):

1) When you post a call for donations, write it without a long list of recipients, so everybody reading feels addressed by it.

Include the "#hashtag", to encourage boosts.

2) When you're willing to support civilians in Gaza who are in need, subscribe to the ""#hashtag".

No need to boost all of the posts you will see. If we are many, each of us boosting a single post a day will spread the message. If you don't think a post is a genuine call for help, just don't boost it. If you see malicious abuse of the hashtag, to harm its efficiency, report the abusers.

3) Whoever doesn't want to see the "#hashtag" can filter it.

If you think this is a reasonable approach, please favorite and boost. Optionally reply with a "#hashtag" suggestion that:

• Signals respect for people and institutions in need
• Makes it clear it's about aid and donations for people and humanitarian institutions on the ground (not just generically about Gaza)
• Suggests boosts are also a form of help, if one can't donate (more)

I'll collect all suggestions from the replies on Thursday July 13th midnight UTC, and post a vote listing all of them, that will run for another week, to determine the most favorited one.

#Codeberg seems to have reviewed a report on a defamatory "project" repository created on their site, and to have removed it.

Thank you, @Codeberg for looking into the matter, and acting according to your findings.

An interesting decision to make for @Codeberg, between a well respected active member of theirs and of the open source community, and a defamatory "project" trying to denounce him and his team as a "scammer".

Personally, I would not want to stay on a platform that keeps hosting a project slandering me with baseless allegations, once that platform has been notified of what is going on.

Looking forward to see if they stand by their active members, or forsake them by taking the "free speech" cop-out route.

Whoever feels inclined to reply: My suggestion is to prepare for legal action in private conversations, not by posting details in public responses. Doxxing people in public is prohibited and punished by most Fediverse server instances, and it also isn't necessary for achieving the purpose mentioned here.

[Update: the issue on Codeberg has been closed, requesting it should rather be reported using the lenght-limited report facility on the respective project page. This request has been followed, linking back to the context available in the (longer) text. Will report on potential results.]

Also re. "scum":

This is how they are promoting a complete list of all gaza-verified Palestinian accounts, encouraging people to block those they denounce as "scammers". Among other places, they're trying to misuse Codeberg as their file hosting site for their vile efforts.

Codeberg is run by very reasonable ppl with their hearts in the right place, so if you have an account there, you may wish to support this issue calling for a removal of this "project".

Please be respectful and express your support, Codeberg has been misused here, like the Fediverse.

Thank you to two people (you know who you are) for privately asking me whether it is a good idea to call "Adam Howard" / "Linux is Best" scum.

My reply is that I chose the word deliberately.

As one of many potential hints, here they are talking about #Palestinians in #Gaza, people living in emergency tents, in a place where diseases are spreading, where prices of food and medicine are soaring and they can't provide their families with the most basic necessities.

Again: Report such posts, please, and forward your reports to the instances hosting the accounts of this scum.

Calling out "Adam Howard" aka "Linux is best", a person or group of persons creating, rotating and constantly running more than 20 Fediverse accounts in parallel, to get away with concern trolling and spreading defamation.

Their specialty is denouncing #GazaVerified, a verification initiative that was founded to give #Palestinians in #Gaza a voice.

"Adam Howard" / "Linux is best" is continuously trying to sabotage any donations to people in dire need, by slandering them as a fraud, wherever possible.

Please report the respective posts to your instance admins, and have your reports forwarded to the instances that harbor the accounts of this scum. IMO, a #fediblock is overdue.

It just modifies the OS identifiers of an existing #Debian installation, and installs a stub age verification API that returns no data – but hey, it's already a first signal that not everybody will just give in.
