The conversations I have with women in tech spaces are completely different in mixed ones. When a man joins a group women in conversation, the dynamic goes cold.

Men take up so much space.

Canada Post has a new service for digital verification that uses their post offices for human verification.

However, what's on the back end of the system that enables digital verification? That's entirely nebulous. Canada Post sold off their tech innovation arm to Deloitte. Who wants to bet Persona is involved?

What's going to happen when the hype cycle dies and costs spike? These orgs have almost every single piece of infrastructure built around "AI". They've reorged around this shit.

The collapse is going to be weird.

I've been thinking about what a transition to non-profit leadership would look like for a path out of working for capitalism. But also, the whole notion of structuring an organization's survival around project-based grants that might go away with a change in government or political winds sounds like hell.

You lose so much institutional knowledge and capacity when you're constantly at the whim of a new project that cycles people in and out due to money pressures.

Then there's how much people get paid and over-work for the mission. There has got to be a better way.

Grant-based organizational funding support is like the worst form of philanthropy. Everything is consulting from that lens. The government gives you a bare minimum sum of money to take care of your community, attached to stringent govt reporting terms.

Meanwhile, nonprofits do not qualify for Canadian SR&ED tax credits (there are exceptions, but... yeah.) Which is how many startups fund their work.

The system is all so messed up.

@inthehands Hah, they build most websites in house. The hard part about selling to banks is that they usually have their own internal dev teams to build tools. The websites are still terrible because they can't get their stakeholders to align on what good looks like.

Picking an external tool forces standardization when no one internally has the power to force these decisions except through procurement.

Higher ed is a weird space to sell into.
