This is so, so important for my fellow autistics to understand. A lot of us get concerned we're not "good people" because we struggle to understand others.

If the nazis ban smut, I'm gonna open a little schlick easy. Low lights, big cushions, no questions. Like an opium den for erotica.
Just ring. The password's "gooshy".
I'll call it The Devil's Doorbell.

Children are seen as possessions. Chattel. Even extremely progressive and radical people will say--in various language--they have rights to indoctrinate their children.
Only abolition of traditional "family" solves the problem, but that's a conversation almost nobody wants to have. It's some real rise above your mamalian and social programming shit, so I understand why it isn't going anywhere in a world where not everybody can agree women are fully human.

I thought everybody knew phones don't really turn off, but I keep hear people online countering good protest security advice with "just turn it off".
"Off" is best described as a low-power state, even for Android. The radio (which has a built-in CPU) isn't disconnected from the battery.
What should you do with your phone if you're protesting or whatever? Leave it at home; or put it in a tested Faraday bag if you take it with you.

I can say this about a lot of people in this country, but today is the 5th day of Black History Month in a time of very anti-Black sentiment, and I am saying it about Black people specifically.
I have sought out Black history on my own this month, and been privileged to see a lot of it come across my timeline, and I feel moved to say this today.

I am not Black, but my emancipation requires that we finish Black emancipation.
My dignity requires that we fight for Black dignity.
My liberty requires we bleed for Black liberty.
My power requires that we reinforce Black power.
You can read my work or talk to me and decide if I've purged enough ignorance to call me a friend, but I know we cannot have any positive revolution without addressing what Black people need now, during, and after.

In his new novel _Everything is Fine at Disney_, Doctorow explores a utopia where personal rights are eternally guaranteed by a digital chip implanted in the spine. But when people around him suddenly cannot hear his voice, Caesar is terrified to learn that his Rights Management Module has failed and his civil liberties are unlicensed.
But he's got a hole card to rebuild his life: a towering file cabinet of hard-copy EULAs. That's certainly not as convenient as a chip.

My recipe for a good protagonist: 3 things I wish were true about me; 5 things I'm proud are true; and 7 things I'm embarrassed are true. Make up everything else.

Here we have @pluralistic doing a wisdom again.
https://pluralistic.net/2024/12/21/blockheads-r-us/#vocational-awe
Something I'll add:
Vocational awe also extends to many people who entered STEM with real interest. Spending your whole life pursuing one avenue of research means you'll have to work wherever they'll pay for that research.
This is a theme I explore in my upcoming novel, which focuses on systemic exploitation of high-knowledge workers and one scientist's enraged reaction to it.
