AOC voted against the rail workers labour demands in the US. I get that she's all that can be hoped for, and i loved her at first but not so much after that.

I hate when they are painted as bad guys just for being strong and sometimes having bad owners. So many of them are the nicest lil goofy guys.

I didn't even recognize Mission the last time I was there. It blew my mind. Back in the day it was amazing thrift stores and cool shops and perfect burritos. I felt like i'd lost an old friend.

Sometimes the feels like a long SCTV skit. I keep expecting Eugene Levy and John Candy to show up.

@skinnylatte
I've been thinking about this a lot. I'm glad i have some places I can visualize with all my senses when I read books now, cuz it's unlikely I'm going anywhere -

Yeah, we had to where we are, but it was only because the rental market is so brutal here we would be paying twice what our mortgage is to rent a similar place which we definitely couldn't afford. Still a serious gamble, but our numbers aren't quite as brutal as SF.

I'm a white kid, but I think I was spoiled growing up eating fantastic food in Vancouver/Richmond in Canada. It's really hard to travel anywhere because when I get a jones I know I will be disappointed. Which is part of why i learned to cook as much food from around the world as possible as well. If you can't find it you gotta have skills!
I've studied a fair bit of Cantonese cooking, but mainly Hong Kong style.
Edinburgh made me cry when I lived there 25 years ago.I think the only meal I had in SF that was fairly solid was at Dol Ho in Chinatown about 12 years ago. I don't know if it's still to the same standard though. I was the only white person there and I definitely drew a lot of attention being a weird white kid ordering dim sum by myself, to the point that an older lady who didn't speak english came to sit with me cuz I think she felt bad that I was getting laughed at, but she wouldn't share my dim sum when I offered.
It was fairly solid, but it still wasn't as good as what I'm used to. I think i've been spoiled with the good stuff on a multinational level. Van is a weird city and not very livable but damn, the food is next level.Mang Kang still made the best daan tat I ever ate though.

Fuck religious ethnostates. Fuck the divine right of kings. I fucking love people.
If you are standing anywhere that would attempt to strip the humanity and right to existence of another, you are the embodiment of evil. Full stop. No discussions.

Hey peeps! Urge everyone you know to have their wee ones vaxxed for measles. I was vaxxed and still almost died from it as a kid. I missed 80 days of school that year, but it could have been much worse. Also, make sure you are too!

All of this thread so much. I was vegetarian and vegan in my youth for virtuous reasons and because of poverty, but as I got older and experienced more of the world, I saw what a colonial bent it could have sometimes, and how it affected social interactions, especially when it came to the hospitality of others while travelling.
I am horrified by factory farming and a huge lover of animals. I also learned in my 30s that I can't digest a lot of my favourite vegan foods, especially legumes very well. I learned about the living and working conditions of cashew pickers and the impact of the almond industry on water and climate, and, like all of life, came to accept that it's complicated.
I've been in the firehouse of ire aimed by vegans before. How I am ruining the planet by eating meat that came from about a mile away from me, but I can watch them eating $20 cashew cheese without ever thinking about the hands of that cashew worker. The level of privilege and lack of awareness it takes for another person to attack someone for what they eat shows a serious deficit of understanding and compassion. They will come. They will yell. Pay them no mind. Kindness is kindness. And if they don't have any, they are the person who is lost.

Had a thought the other day. If you have a welcome mat, like one that specifically says "welcome" or "failte" etc are you technically giving vampires free admittance? Is this the vampire loophole? Would they be as nervous to test it as you would?
