That power becomes diluted when individual workers are more replaceable. A rough job market enables the current management behavior.

Simply having real innovation isn't enough if the company won't listen to it. And they're happy not to, and then rush to pivot when it's too late.

This reenforces more than ever that we need unions. I'm surprised that wasn't mentioned.

I wore my Owl head and cyberpunk jacket for the Halloween party at #supercon and a bit Saturday night too. Though I had to keep taking it off to speak to people. At some point I need to add a speaker like those used for some storm trooper helmets.

Best outfit at #supercon last night IMO - @securelyfitz - above the buttons are epaper displays that change questions, and when you make a choice, it takes your picture and prints out the meme with you in it and the questions you were given.

@dalias @azonenberg @neil They really don't. I'm regularly mind-blown how slow and/or large some things are.

Coworkers are very eager to just increase timeouts to even 10s of minutes, because it is "complicated" and so must be slow. Rather than wonder why it is 10s of minutes instead of 10s of milliseconds. ("complicated" here is a lot of business logic, but all of that complicated business logic is likely microseconds)

Inspired by @geekmomprojects 's friend's tree, I tried out @themariday 's mapping tool a few days ago.

This is a setup I put together for testing a tool I was working on years ago, and it managed a pretty good map (only ~4 notably misplaced pixels). Maybe I'll try it on the "hard-mode" setup later this week.
