Zoos around the world are reporting rising cases of H5N1 birdflu infections of animals. Zoologists think the cause is from contact with infected wild birds. Human infections are still rare but highly lethal, with a 54% case fatality rate according to the World Health Organization (#WHO).

@burnoutqueen I honestly don't know what hit Trump. But I do know Elon's Twitter is censoring one of the top photojournalists in the industry.

Photo Journalist Pete Souza was suspended from X (#Twitter) today for posting a photograph of former President Trump he had taken and was published by the Associated Press. The photograph showed Trump's seemingly undamaged ear.

This man has twice worked in the White House as the official photographers of both Ronald Reagan and Barrack Obama. He is a respected professional photojournalist.

I've been exploring other Fediverse projects. What I want to get a handle on is compatibility across services. In this thread, I'll be comparing WordPress with ActivityPub plugin as a feed into Mastodon. In another, I'll be showing Mastodon posts (my own boosts) in HubZilla.

Upshot: What I found (so far, anyway), is that in both cases essential formatting is lost.

A couple days ago Fedi.Tips (who runs a great service!) wrote a post about WordPress ActivityPub compatibility, with Mastodon here:

I disagreed with that. And a user there helpfully chimed in with his own use of WordPress to feed into his Mastodon account. In this case, it's a Podcaster with blog, and he uses Mastodon to promote the Podcast. Fine.

But if you dig into his feed, and compare WordPress entries to their actual posts, you see the formatting lost.

If I subscribe from Mastodon to a blog hosted on WP, I get a plain text rendition of the blog entry in my feed. All formatting is lost.

@GottaLaff I know this isn't Dick van Dyke related, but the old Mary Tyler Moore show is still funny fifty years on. She and Dyke had a prior show together in the early 60s. But I wonder, why is that show still funny and not dated? I find MASH to be dated. The same for most other 70s shows. Pretty much only Mary Tyler Moore and Rockford Files still do it fir me from that era.

Why is MTM still funny? It's a genuine conundrum for me.

@DaSkinny1 @GottaLaff I like the cynicism of the show. He's a downtrodden loser anti-hero who just wants to do right, surrounded by two-bit lowlifes and hustlers. This is in contrast with cheese shows of the era like Love Boat and Charlie's Angel's. Lol

@philip_cardella A lot of people here were rude to professional journalists. There's also an activist streak which is dismissive to professional standards in the field. So many of the pros picked up their accounts and left.

The FefiVerse must do better.

But it helps to understand their perspective.

Re: Israeli/Hamas war. I think the play here is Russia arming and training Hamas in order to incite Israel and the US to overreact with heavy civilian casualties in Gaza. Then they'll say, 'See? They do it too." And use that as to justify their high civilians casualty count in Ukraine. So, propaganda.

Also, to use up western military supplies there instead of arming Ukraine. And to diminish Isreali military for Iran. The Hamas attack makes no sense otherwise.
