Meta seems cooked, but I’m glad we have open and federated alternatives!

@dansup They are talking about Free Speech, but I got banned on Threads for supposedly violating their community standards, after making ONE comment.
Earlier, I had gotten banned on Instagram for having done nothing at all - created the account, never used it, no single post, got email about violating community standards.
My feeling was, these people are insane.
Admittedly, my one comment on Threads was controversial, but it wasn't being rude to anybody. Free Speech is about controversies.
@dansup Do you know of any good tutorial videos that explain what the Fediverse and Mastodon are?
I’m starting to advocate for the Fediverse among my friends and would love a resource to share with them
@dansup you should do a upgraded hubzilla UI, so it looks modern like pixelfed
@dansup please don't promote Signal here. It's centralized and not really open source. Matrix is what you are looking for.
@dansup I dunno about equating Instagram with Pixelfed. There's lots of ordinary folks on Instagram, everything from disability rights advocates to a woman who performs classic works on the piano with a rooster on her head. But Pixelfed seemed very hard core photography; I found it very intimidating.
@dansup OneDrive/Teams/Sharepoint -> #Nextcloud

Cooked? How so? What have I missed?
@dansup The one thing keeping on facebook is local community groups. My profile is basically a burner account with not much personal info, but I love my local Buy Nothing group.
@dansup Matrix? XMPP?
@dansup no one uses that stuff, the avg joe won't care either
@feld @dansup @andrewwet Can you explain (or give a link to a good summary of) Delta Chat?
I've been interested in encrypted chat apps lately.
@feld @dansup @andrewwet That's dope. I would still think double ratchet encryption gives Signal based apps the advantage in what I would want. SimpleX works well most of the time and it's supposedly easy to self host. There's also Keychat which is the Signal protocol on NOSTR but it has the same problem as everything on NOSTR where your identity can be easily hijacked and once it is you're pretty much SOL.
Maybe Matrix too but I have problems with the leeway it provides with key management
@dansup so these services have robust moderation and fact checking? Who fact checks the fact checkers to ensure they’re being truthful and unbiased?
@cos @dansup Unable to decrypt: The sender's device has not sent us the keys for this message.
@dansup Also would like to recommend Lemmy as an alternative to Reddit
@dansup How does one rearrange post order in a collection?
@dansup id add Lemmy for groups/forum functionality. Its a massive part of why people still use Facebook.
@dansup
Alternatives to Telegram? Matrix seems to lack some of Telegram's features.
@briankrebs
@dansup is there something that is a good replacement for Instagram's stories? I like seeing my friends' little slice of life/pet/food videos/photos/memes and would like somewhere to encourage people to migrate.
@dansup unfortunately, I don't know if they're "cooked". They're just taking fewer directions from feds. I'd still recommend getting off of big tech platforms of course. My only criticism is do we really gotta replace reels? 😂
@dansup I'm saying we should ditch doomscrolling altogether haha
@dansup Really would like to replace Insta with pixelfed, but there's no app, and even after signing up, no logon, so can't.
@dansup
I would suggest Signal as the alternative to WhatsApp

@dansup now do music
