@thomasfuchs @kestral That's true in some markets. Most people have a laptop around just to do the jobs they can't do with their phone. I recently asked some kids in my village in Greece if they wanted me to teach them to use a computer, and they said no. They don't really care. However, a substantial amount of people will still have computers, and Linux might just be the ticket for them to avoid buying a new PC.

The latest leak where it has the diabolical FB selling our *private* messages to #Netflix and others, was what broke the camel's back. I've now convinced my family to move to #Matrix. I've only been using FB to message them, and occasionally for promotional posts for my paintings. I haven't really used FB or IG in any other "personal" capacity apart from family IMs. But now, enough is enough for even that. Matrix all the way.

I looked at the #rust based, #Cosmic #desktop #environment, by #System76. This is branded "alpha" right now, but I'm flabbergasted by the users online, who think that "by summer" that thing will be ready for general use.

News flash, it won't.

It generally takes 2-3 years minimum after the official release for a brand new DE (with a brand new #API & libs) to become truly useful to most people. DEs aren't adopted unless matured. Hamper your expectations, lads.

@dansup Thank you for the reply! But I also can't seem to delete a post at .social (using the web interface). Also, the likes don't show up in the notifications (while there have been likes).

@Gargron Plz consider writing on the joinmastodon website AND on the android/ios descriptions of the apps to ask people to use the mobile/web site instead of the apps for the time being. We are losing a LOT of new users because the app doesn't work well. Lots of complains about it. Plz tell ppl to use the web for now. It needs to be written on all the pages/sites where the app is available, so people know what to do from the get go, before they get a bad first impression.
