LabPlot is a free, open source and cross-platform Data Visualization and Analysis software. It has a graphical user interface, a command-line interface, and an interactive and animated notebook interface. Appimage available to try: https://labplot.org/
New major version, v1.5, for the #Tahoma2D animation app. It works well under Linux, minus the fact that it doesn't launch from the app menu (you gotta use the terminal or a file manager to navigate to its appimage). Overall, impressive app.
Another similar app, Synfig Studio, also has major new features on their dev branch.
@dansup I love loops (uploaded a video already), but maybe pixelfed needs some love too? Paragraph formatting is not saved in pixelfed's web version as of late.
There was a singular moment in 2015-16 where Bernie Sanders could have been the Democrat Elect instead of Clinton. He was sabotaged, and along that, so was democracy in the US, as it opened the gates for Trump and all that ensued afterwards.
The future (and present) in the US is oligarchy, not a democratic republic. It's just that now it's going to be completely in the open, and legally elected for it. The dream is dead.
Shutter Encoder is a new free GPL app (donationware optionally) that is a front-end to ffmpeg. It's kind of like Handbrake, or Avidemux, or LosslessCut, but with a lot more ffmpeg options exposed. Available for Mac, Win, and Linux.
@sungo@djsundog There's a difference between tinkering, and software that is meant to be useful. If your code was supposed to be tinkering for your own curiosity, or as tutorial to others, then sure, it doesn't need a structure.
But if that software was supposed to do something useful, then the corpo-construct is needed to ensure just that. Otherwise, it's just gaslighting users that you might made a, let's say, CAD app that's useless. People don't have time to waste on useless things.
FreeCAD 1.0 is out, and the binaries for various platforms are now available for download too (yesterday they released the source, but today binaries are available too). After 22 years of development, it's now a very robust app that competes head to head with heavyweights in the CAD space.
Very happy to see PhotoGimp, which turns Gimp into Photoshop-like, still works fine with Gimp 3.0-RC1. I use it to edit my watercolor paintings (mostly contrast and colors, since my scanner is not accurate). You'd be surprised how much digital editors are used by traditional painters these days. Especially for commissions and book illustrations where clients want changes all the time.
@JRepin@jbqueru here it works from the command line, it loads the last session with the right files. But when I switch the session from within kate (using the main menu entry), it doesn't replace the files. I used the 24.08 flatpak, and the 23.08 debian repo. Same behavior on both. Unfortunately, their appimage daily-build doesn't work at all.
@JRepin@jbqueru nope, it doesn't work correctly either. I have two sessions, with different files loaded on each of them. When I switch between sessions from the main menu, it doesn't switch the open files.
@JRepin@jbqueru Another problem is that it doesn't remember the session. I have set it to remember the session (the files that were open before), and it just reloads with an empty file.
I was going to suggest to my husband @jbqueru to move to KDE's Kate code editor (currently he is using SublimeText, and previous VSCode), but there is no ruler feature on Kate. He kind of needs that for his arcane assemblers.
This is the #LightWorks video editor on Linux. It's not open source, but if #Kdenlive or #Shotcut doesn't work for you, you might wanna give it a go. The free version is limited to exporting 720p only. Which might be enough if you're exporting for #PeerTube, where bandwidth is expensive.
And before I go to bed tonight, let me introduce you to NewsFlash, a modern, Gnome RSS reader. The only downside for me is that it doesn't come as an appimage, or a .deb (comes only as a flatpak). That's a great app that should be by default in the distros' repos. In some of my laptops, I still use Liferea instead of Newsflash because of that.
Pixelorama is a pixel-based painting app (e.g. to create icons, or pixel art for vintage computers). The interesting part about it is that while it's an app, it's written in Godot, a gaming engine.
@dansup@loops I don't like algorithms telling me what to watch. That's the reason I'm on fediverse, so I have a reverse-chronological feed, hashtags and search by myself. If we were to have by default the algorithm telling me what to watch (defaults matter!), then there's no reason to leave tiktok. In fact, scratch that, I don't have a tiktok account at all, I don't like to be told what to see.
So I rather see other improvements on the platform than AI algorithms.
@dansup I created an account just now, but I received no email. When I try to login, it says that my account doesn't exist. When I try to recreate it, it says that this username and email address already exist.
Could you please make it so I get the email so my account gets activated? It's the username and email address I want to use, you see... There's no way to ask the system to re-send the activation email.
