Up next is Gobo, which allows posting across platform. Really nice UI that gives you information about how your post will appear on various platforms. It also gives you previews so you can really tweak the post to look great across them all.
I only had a few fleeting moments to catch the #FediForum today. But wow was I so glad to have been there!
@_elena premiered a new video that introduces the fediverse to mainstream social users, and it was very well produced. I got a little emotional about it! I believe it will be released on PeerTube within the week.
Something to look forward to, and share generously. You'll want to shake the cobwebs off your old Twitter and Facebook accounts and post it! :)
Bounce is a new offering from @anewsocial that allows you to move accounts across platforms (Bluesky <---> Mastodon) including ALL of your followers and many of your followed accounts.
@surf showed off their app, which allows users to create their own timelines (feeds) that are either private or public. All kinds of open content can be incorporated into the feeds, including RSS, Mastodon and Bluesky data from your own timelines. Currently in beta, if you can get an invite it's a really fun app! Can't wait for this to be released generally.
@bonfire demoed their Social 1.0 Release Candidate, transitioning from an experimental build into a production ready platform. One of the unique features demonstrated was the creation of "Circles" - a way to create smaller group feeds, either private or public. (From personal experience, there's a LOT of great features here with extensive ways to customize, check it out!)
@newsmast demonstrated their Channels platform, which allows a user or group of individuals to curate content to create feeds based on human curation, hashtags, etc. This is opening up to a wider public beta soon.
Build Your Own Timeline Algorithm (BYOTA) is a mozilla.ai Blueprint that can be used to create customized timelines that focus on topics of interest. This one was a bit over my head, but at first glance it looks similar to Bluesky feed builders I've seen.
So after writing this up - it's obvious that customizing your timeline is a top trend in fediverse dev circles right now! Curious what will see in the upcoming demos as well.
Just finished moving my email from Proton to Fastmail. The documentation for this makes it sound like the only option for importing your email from Proton is by hand via .eml files in batches of 1,000. :yikes:
But I was able to use Thunderbird, connected via Proton Bridge, to create MBOX files for each folder and then use the "HEY" import feature in Fastmail. Much easier.
Thunderbird has an Export tool called "ImportExport Tools NG" that made this possible. Hooray!
Federated flair for PieFed communities and users is here. Think of them similar to hashtags that follow these objects around. It gives you a sense of the user's specific interest in a topic, or a way to filter a community to posts about a specific flair. Your community flair can be associated to a specific color.
Threads updated their terms of service. Lots of CYA when interacting with “the Protocol” which at this point in time, is ActivityPub. But it’s never named, and it’s noted that the protocol could change at anytime.
Important terms to review: protocol and third party *. Also that little sneaky point about needing to adhere to both Threads and Instagram’s ToS.
