Chatbots cannot lie, actually, and they also cannot tell the truth. They just generate text. That's it. They aren't talking to you. They aren't exchanging ideas. They have no concept of anything. They're pulling words out of a hat. Saying they do anything more is anthropomorphizing and everybody keeps doing it
