A story in one of the later seasons, Serena Joy tries to convince the male leaders of Gilead to let women read the Bible, and she reads a passage.
She is immediately arrested and a finger cut off(the penalty for women reading). She was an architect of the very government punishing her, but somehow didn't see this coming. That seemed wildly unrealistic when I saw it.
Now we're seeing GOP Serenas IRL have their finger moment every day.

I've decided that part of my resistance efforts is resisting spending money.

A lot of these companies bending the knee think they have us all locked in, that we're too addicted to convenience and instant gratification, that we can't quit them.
Places like Amazon and Target think we need them more than they need us. They need to find out how wrong they are.

And if you've announced to everyone they can't buy anything on day 15, they're just going to buy things on the 14th or 16th. The business still gets their money. The increased sales before and after the boycott day can easily make up for that boycott day

The daily sales goal is not as important as the weekly, monthly, quarterly, or yearly goals. You need to make them miss at least one monthly sales goal if you want them to even pay attention.

a boycott with an end date picked in advance is not a boycott. It's a pause.

ONE DAY OF LOST SALES IS NOTHING. That could happen if their machines go down for a day (which does happen, btw)

Seriously, none of the businesses that you need to feel any pain won't feel any pain with a one day boycott. All they have to do is sell better the day before and after, and your boycott is erased.

A successful boycott takes weeks or months to be effective. It's starvation, and you can't speed that up.

I do like that the vibe online has shifted from "OMG we're fucked" to "Fuck this Nazi bullshit!" People are getting the good kind of angry, and running out of fucks.

Yes and No.

We will fact check each other, and those sometimes actually turn into thoughtful discussions. People will apologize even.

But there is no centralized fact checkers, cause federation. And yet, we don't have the misinformation problem that other socials do. Socials run by corps that include algorithms.

Almost as if the incentive to tell shocking lies for attention isn't here, and that's why it's not as much of a problem.

For me, and only me, I don't like a lot of onboarding stuff. It's like the bloatware apps automatically added to phones. It's often in my way, the way a lot of apps do it.
So my only ask is that things be opt-in, skippable, optional, etc.

But if a starter pack is a game changer? This is not a hill to die on. It's not even a rock to sneeze on.

No, she's not. She's not a time traveler plucked from then to now in an instant.

Granny may have been BORN at a different time, but she's BEEN LIVING in this one for quite some time. She's lived through tons of changes and ignored them. All the ones the rest of us paid attention to. Well, there are consequences to ignoring the world around you. Especially for decades. 🤷♂️

Marketplace, you buy what you want, you shop for what interests you. Leave the rest. Where's the problem?
