@bremner @humberto @cwebber Just when I was feeling really burned out on open source you folks go and demonstrate positive results from open discussion and make me hopeful again. Good job!

@wohali I only saw John Candy doing his Orson Wells impression for the first time recently and MY GOD I miss that man. What a treasure, what a loss.

@cwebber I've also been playing a lot with Racket for the past few weeks, COMPLETELY coincidentally, so I think the universe is telling me something.

@cwebber Oh my gosh, I'm sorry it took me so long to look deeper into Spritely, because it's exactly my kind of thing. One of my favorite jobs eons ago was at PlaceWare, founded by Pavel Curtis, Mike Dixon, and David Nichols of Xerox PARC: early web conferencing software built on distributed objects. It's due for a comeback!

It's shocking how bad software is in 2025. The experience of using mainstream business software (Windows, Teams, Slack, Outlook, Chrome, Edge, Visual Studio and VS Code, Office 365-or-whatever-they-call-it-now, etc.) is JARRINGLY bad. At times it really feels like the last 50 years of UI and UX research has been for naught. No consistency at all, it's just chaos and anarchy, death by a million cuts.

I am increasingly of the opinion that the Internet was a huge mistake and that we should go back to telegraphy.

I used to think I knew DNS, until I got a job working on a DNS resolver. Now I know that I don't know DNS.

I'm fairly certain that DNS is unknowable, in its entirety. It is Forbidden Knowledge.

The last month or so has been rough on my desire to remain part of the Fediverse. I've seen so much collective punishment meted out due to poor moderation decisions, mostly boiling down to small misunderstandings that have lead to "You are not moderating your server the exact same way that I would moderate your server, therefore I am going to suspend you and sever the social graph". It's a bad look, and it has left an awful taste in my mouth.

It's a long shot, but: Does anyone have a CD image of the Silicon Graphics "IRIX 5.3 C++ Development Option"? It seems to have vanished off the face of the earth. jrra doesn't have it, so I assume nobody has it.
