sometimes I want a filter that merely removes a topic from my home timeline and moves it into a timeline of its own that I can interact with at a different pace than my home timeline. a subject I want to contain and address after reflection, maybe, or when my blood pressure is low enough, or what have you. maybe I want to be able to make that topic only refresh in clients on request rather than by push.

Der da ist bald nach Tick & Trick -ahem - nach Brad & Bart bei Blockchain Capaital LLC eingestiegen: Brock Jeffrey Pierce, "entrepreneur". Der hatte sich schon seit früher Kindheit dem Trash verschrieben. Kinderdarsteller in C-Produktion bis 16 & ab da wurde nur noch gezockt.
Im Übrigen bemüht er sich so kühn drinzuschauen wie Buffalo Bill, trägt dementsprechend merkwürdige Hüte & hat übel beleumundete Freunde

I've done standards work around FOSS, and if that's taught me one thing, it's that a standard is only really open when you have multiple working implementations.

ActivityPub does. Bluesky doesn't, and - as far as anyone can see - won't.

@adam_straughan It's a wonderful sport. I only started in my late 30s, and I'll never get to do the hardest runs. But that doesn't matter. It's so great to be out in nature, and to have this incredibly direct experience of the rivers.

Also, the people tend to be pretty cool :-)

what we've seen in post-musk twitter world, is that people want to be with their people, and that people want to be in communities in which Black people are free. both bluesky and mastodon inherited major racism problems and tech bro culture, but jay made different choices than eugen about how to address that inheritance. no doubt she had more cash with which to do it and that cash may be the end of bluesky too. over and over i say this: don't deny it, learn from it

Bluesky has no revenue model -- it's only VC capital keeping the lights on.

They keep talking about being decentralized, but everything I've read is that this isn't a practical prospect, and certainly not one they're designing for.

The company's power structure is just as centralized as that of Mastodon; but Mastodon has forks, and there's a whole bunch of alternative fedi server sofware. Bluesky has none of this.

There's only one way this can end.

I'll admit to feeling a bit of FOMO over the current rush towards Bluesky. But @lrhodes wonderfully summarizes why I'll continue to make my home here on the fedi, thank you very much.
