The problem is we are running out of young people that have a reason to care to excel at their task.
not an indictment of todays young people. When I was young people in the late 90s I took pride in making pizzas faster than my peers while having them come out the oven looking good enough for photos.
Todays world has beat the care and effort out of young people. There is no reward for doing above the minimum. So its rare to find the self-motivated.-

Today on “no such thing as unskilled labor”: there’s a boy at my corner grocery whose speed at scanning things astounds me; doubly so today after a huge line built up because there’s a new guy who doesn’t have the whole process internalized yet.

@0xabad1dea Related: At the supermarket, I always pick a till where an older lady is working. They're almost always significantly faster than younger colleagues.
