The problem is we are running out of young people that have a reason to care to excel at their task.

not an indictment of todays young people. When I was young people in the late 90s I took pride in making pizzas faster than my peers while having them come out the oven looking good enough for photos.

Todays world has beat the care and effort out of young people. There is no reward for doing above the minimum. So its rare to find the self-motivated.
