@sand I used to do a podcast with a Canadian friend about photography and one episode the topic came up where the phrase "going out shooting" has a different meaning for Canadians as it does for Americans. I have to specify it's with a camera and he doesn't. 🤣

I know this opinion won't change anybody's mind, but I want to go on the record and say "Fuck Facebook/Meta and I hope they take a long walk off a short pier".

They're definitely in my Top 10 list of most hated companies in the world and I hope some government not in their pocket steps in to dismantle them one day.

@tokyo_0 you're welcome to boost anything I say, it's all public and I'm big on sharing and transparency.

I don't know why the insurance companies have that stance because the way the panels are installed actually reinforces the roof and reduces the damage from wind and water.

You do have to pay the power company even if disconnected but you have an account. You can cancel your account but then you cannot sell back extra power or use the grid if your solar is broken. Monthly fee is $30 + taxes

@tokyo_0 My home owners insurance will drop me if I install it and the insurance policies that allow it are 2-3x more expensive. Additionally, the state government has passed multiple laws requiring you to pay the power company even if you don't use their electricity and they've also put restrictions on how much a power company can pay you if they use your excess solar energy.

Woke up to a power outage because it got windy last night, not even a Tropical Storm or Hurricane, just heavy winds.

It should be criminal to prevent citizens from having solar power in 2023, this happens too frequently here and it's sickening that I could be saving money and not having to deal with power outages if our power companies would just not be big babies.

@zyz @feditips Thanks! I checked it out but couldn't find anything specific to privacy (lots of good info on certain aspects of it though). I ended up putting a document together myself on just the account and server settings, hopefully there will be a more extensive guide one day. 🙂

Can anybody recommend a good video explaining the various privacy settings on Mastodon? I'd like to share a video along with any written documentation I create/find since sometimes that's easier for users.

@vmstan @doctroid the secret is you gotta be at least a little crazy to be an admin of a Mastodon server, no sane person would survive this. ?

So many people are having a bad first experience with Mastodon because they're using the official app which is lacking features, doesn't allow image uploads randomly, has random slowness, and doesn't give you easy access to the two most active feeds where you can find people (Local and Federated).

Please switch to Metatext, Tusky, or Tooot for a better mobile experience (or even use a browser).

Out of the >15k users that joined this week, over 11k are on the official apps.
