I think that's a question we have to answer for ourselves, as Canadians.
Who are the Canadians without the US? What do we stand for?
and go from there
But I think it is still very early.

Fair point! I still like the idea of a Canadian distro though, assuming it will get better.
Thank you, I just learned that China has many linux distros. They were initially created to reduce dependencies from foreign OS.
Some of them like Kylin are been used in chinese government and military.
Some of them are based on Debian/Ubuntu like Deepin
Yeah, but Linux is free and open source, nobody owns a project like Debian because it's built and maintained from people all around the world. So "Chinese" and "German" don't really apply.
While it is true that for now, Maple Linux is just like any other Debian distro.
But it is new and I think we should give them a chance to see if they are able to distinguish themselves as a "canadian" distro.
Today, I made a video #review for a new #linux #distro called Maple Linux. #maplelinux
Its purpose is to unite Canadians to strengthen #canada data and digital sovereignty.
I usually prefer posting my peertube link here, but my instance's SSL is expired. It actually happens frequently.
For now, here's my YouTube link:

@OrionKidder
For now, I think Maple Linux is mostly just Debian using Cinnamon and branded for Canadians.
I'm assuming that the whole point of this distro is that it's built for canadians, by canadians.
Politically, since Canada is currently distancing themselves from the USA, I believe that this philosophy will become more and more important over time for canadians.
But we'll see over time how everything evolves I guess.
I just deactivated my Twitter/X account.
I will use Mastodon from now on.
I should have done it long ago, but I was hoping that I would be able to transfer my data from X to Mastodon at some point.
I guess that's not happening.
My next target would be to delete my Instagram/Thread account.
@dansup
I would keep the app about the app.
And not turn it into a circus.
What should I know about #nostr ?
How is it different from #activitypub ?
Which one is better and why?
Yeah, if Nostr is valuable, I'm going to wait that it becomes more developed and diversified.
So far, I like the Fediverse, there's a bit of everything.
And even then, I find it a bit too pro-linux and things like that.
I'm assuming those are issues that could get resolved over time.
As for the community, I'm also assuming that they must be very tech oriented lol
Mastodon is being developed by a non-profit organization.
Do you mean that Nostr is literally built by the community?
Umm, I'm not sure if I understand this notion about relays.
I might need to look into it.
Interesting, but I assume everything must be hosted, stored and provided by a server.
Meaning, there must be some weaknesses if you truly want to be censor-resistant.
@BeAware
I don't know it.
What does it do?
Is it an alternative to something else?
I made a #video where I talk about my experiences with different free and open source social media. #foss #socialmedia
Some of them are part of the #fediverse and use #activitypub
Here are the ones that I talk about:
#mastodon
#pixelfed
#lemmy
#peertube
#revolt
#signal
#loops
#liberapay
One thing that I learned working for a tech startup:
Sometimes, you just gotta ship it. It's going to be imperfect, but you'll figure it out.
The #fediverse serves as a reset of the state of the #internet
Internet 2.0.
The whole purpose is to gain our #power back over large #tech #corporations and #monopoly that currently have too much power and influence.
I don't think the goal is to destroy them.
Simply to rebalance the power dynamics.
Hey, what's up? I'm Frank.
I'm an online solo #entrepreneur that specializes in print-on-demand #pod and #ecommerce.
I also have a vast array of skills in #tech, #wordpress websites, #youtube videos, graphic design, #ai, etc.
Around Feb 2024, I started a journey to prioritize free/libre and open source softwares. #foss #floss
Currently, I'm learning about decentralized social media and the #fediverse which I find really interesting.
See you around!
I just deleted my #reddit account.
I wasn't using it that much anyway.
But lately I've been messing around on #lemmy
I support the #fediverse
