    After comparing them in person, I think I might get a Realforce R4 keyboard instead of a HHKB. Both use Topre switches, but the Realforce feels a lot sturdier and even the tenkeyless version has a proper ANSI layout with arrow keys and all!

    @r Ah. What kind of keyboard? All of my previous ones have had Cherry MX Blue switches. I've tried out pretty much every keyboard at Yodobashi Akiba and even went to YushaKobo and the silent 45g Topre boards felt without a doubt the best to type on (only Blues and their copycats holding up because that's what I'm used to). A nice and chonky resistance when pressing down that slowly eases until you reach the actuation point about half-way down. Very sturdy too, no rattling at all. I can definitely understand why there's a cult around these keyboards!

    What I can't understand is how people tolerate completely linear switches that seem to be used in like 95% of all boards. No feedback at all until you suddenly bottom out! How is that supposed to be pleasant to type on? :shiro_confused2:

    @r Right, people do tend to say that linear switches are a better choice for gaming for this very reason. And I guess the majority of fancy keyboards are marketed towards gamers...

    Also, today I learned that Vim is a video game too...! :writing_notes:

    It's always funny reading negative reviews for Japanese restaurants by tourists, who then proceed to describe a completely normal Japanese restaurant interaction in excruciating detail, and finally end their wall of text with «In my country, ...». :akasmug:

    But on the other hand, it's also funny reading negative reviews by the Japanese. They are all like «The experience was great but the water we were served was a little bit too wet, will not be coming here again, 2/5». :akaheh:
