@killyourfm the non-Steam handheld PCs were using Windows, right? Just to be sure.

@killyourfm at this point can't they just ship the game on large SD cards and call it a day?

@killyourfm this is more than sad. this is a loss of cultural heritage that will never see the light of day again. i hope there's at least been some efforts on preservation of this, as seeing everything be gone like this is not right..

@clacke @zens shotcut can do all of the editing you need, yes. and possibly the conversion too.

@clacke with VLC alone? not really. you CAN cut them out, technically, but you'd end up with a new file for each cut that you'd have to put together in an editor that, you guessed it, also can do the cutting.

@kaia I doubt it'll be as big a crash as the dotcom bubble, but we'll see. I don't think we've gone all the way to the top yet, as there are still new advancements being made, but it definitely is a matter of time before people and orgs understand what these new tools can actually successfully be used for, and then we'll go from there. Again.

@killyourfm might be worth investigating where it goes wrong, but if both are lacking this then it's probably Bazzite. Maybe others have noticed too? Definitely worth putting attention to for the right people.

@killyourfm the performance impact should be barely noticable with hardware encoding to a raw output, so there's definitely something wacky going on. Perhaps the Bazzite install (flatpak?) is missing the appropriate VAAPI libraries/drivers for this.

@killyourfm while I personally do not mind reading Medium articles, what puts me off is being unable to do just that. when I'm looking for news, or reading them, I do not wish to engage with anything else. Not even a login form. Anything that puts me off even slightly, a popup, anything that covers what I'm trying to read? I'm not reading it anymore. That may sound weak, low attention span, or privileged, and it IS all of those. The info can be found elsewhere, so make it worth it.

@killyourfm 5 is increasingly becoming a more and more versatile way of doing real work. Obviously the hardware is a limiting factor, but I've already done this for some IT-specific work, both design, development, data science, and administrative work. I would encourage you to try it sometime.

@killyourfm this has been very interesting to read. I really would've thought that the performance on Windows would be better, as has historically been the case. But the entire experience you've been though mirrors much of what I've read about Windows-based Steam Deck-like experiences. Valve put a tremendous amount of effort into making the experience work for THEIR handheld device, as opposed to shoehorning it back in.

@killyourfm haha, I meant nothing of the dort! I did miss the part of your current age, so please forgive me on that. My point was merely for people with this goal to start early, so the payoff lasts longer! Not that I am an authority on the matter, obviously.

@killyourfm isn't 50 a bit late for you to fully enjoy it though? That's a lof land to maintain for only about a decade, no?
