Lately I've been hearing people calling the Public Domain the "graveyard of ideas" or "where ideas go to die". Mostly people who take Razorfist a bit too seriously I notice...
But the public domain isn't a graveyard; it is the natural state of ideas.
At the end of the day, all the public domain does is provide creators with more material to work with. It's the creator that is to blame or praise when they when they make use of it for their own works.
Meritocracy sorts the problem out, if you'll just be patient and let it. Take the good; toss the bad.

I'm doing an audiobook of the formerally banned fantasy novel Jurgen: A comedy of justice. I'll be publishing it on Librivox and the Fedi when it's done (which could take some months).
The novel is coy, naughty and generally fun. I'll try to do it, well... justice.

Yeah, that is (literally) a lot easier on the eyes.
Got the idea to use these colors from reading some old yellowed paperbacks and noticing my eye fatigue was minimal compared to reading new books.
Glad to see it works with digital books too ~

@sun I have a friend who used to be on the old Shitposter, but he says he can't make a new one here?

@sun So, I've been out of the game for a while. What nodes for shitpositng and banter would you recommend people look at these days?

@sun The irksome thing is Red Sonya is technically public domain. Though, Howard's original version was a Polish chick from the 1700s fighting the Ottomans and not someone who'd run into Conan.
Actually... she'd be a good NPC for a Lamentations of the Flame Princess campaign.

@sun This comic started out as a straight up Red Sonja parody, but the estate threatened Dunn with a lawsuit, so he made some changes that made it feel more like the 90s D&D influenced anime like Slayers.
Personally, I think it's a good change.

@sun Like I said, his art ranges from meh to simi-OK, but his comcs tend to be fun at least.
Kendra included. It feels like the lovechild of D&D, Slayers and Conan. Which... is a bit incestuous, but it works.

I've given a read to Ben Dunn's new Blue Kendra comic. As per usual, Dun's art is.. a mixed bag, but overall, the comic was a fun ride.
It's basically Slayers with a dash of Conan. If that sounds good to you, look for it on Antarctic Press sooner or later.

@kakafarm You cant have good lovecraftian fiction without bigotry.

@kakafarm Fear of the unknown is the very mother of bigotry. And that is the rootstock of Lovercraft's own work.

These old pulp stories from nearly a century ago have a lot of anachronisms (breathable atmospheres on mars, ect) but they otherwise hold up pretty well. I just file them under 'science fantasy' and call it a day for immersion's sake.
Cirsova's omnibus of Leigh Brackett's work has some nice illustrations too.

Minetest (with Voxel Libre) is becoming dangerously close to being a reasonable alternative to for paying Microsoft money for a 13 year old Java app.
