I have a laptop that I use with debian that I want to give to grandchildren who are boys up to the age of 12. #Debian is perfect for me, but I am wondering which #Linux distro would be the right choice for kids that have only used android and windows to start out on. Any suggestions?
@evan Yes but . . . Mamdami has it right. It would feel right but it is not within the authority of a city government. Since the US chooses lawlessness for their own advantage, it won't happen.
My app of choice for #mastodon is #phanpy. I am not sure whether other apps share its catch up feature. It looks like it should be useful but I have never found my way around it. Have others? #fediverse
@gemlog I wonder what the pros and cons would be. There is some value in keeping thoughts focussed. Do posts that are longer get passed on by other instances complete? Are storage burdens increased significantly? #CoSocial
There are lots of issues here in no particular order:
1. Kitimat or Prince Rupert route 2. Tanker traffic on west coast 3. Bitumen at all 4. Fossil fuels generally and the atmosphere 5. Long term Infrastructure investment in a declining industry 6. Pandering to Alberta's divisive strategy 7. Indigenous interests 8. Shifting trade from from US 9. Who pays the financial costs 10. Long Canadian history of pipeline politics 11. Following many accounts produces a busy and interesting timeline. It makes the #fediverse work for me. The next level is to use lists. Each account I follow gets added to at least one #list Some are geographic, political, particular topics or other interests. I have a Thinkers list for smart folks. I have a Wary list for accounts I have doubts about. I have an Add2Cat list for new accounts I follow. I can view any list like a separate themed timeline and it helps me catch stuff I would miss

“This is the latest in a series of unprovoked and unwarranted escalations in tariff policy with other sovereign nations,” said Flavio Volpe, the president of Canada’s Automotive Parts Manufacturers’ Association, a trade group. “Lost in the accountability loop here is the president’s threat is really to charge American taxpayers billions of dollars because of a benign World Series ad he doesn’t like,” he added.
Last year Americans elected a bunch of thugs to run the country. They are dismantling it now unopposed. Let's hope it disintegrates without bloodshed or collateral damage.

I just tried to post information on FB about #fedicon in Vancouver Aug 1 & 2 which they bounced with a phony excuse, one more reason why I will be attending this event. Any others from #vancouverisland#bc planning to go who want to ride share?
