#ThinSectionThursday In Archaean times, ultra-hot komatiite lavas were often erupted at Earth's surface. The hottest ones were much hotter than anything erupted today (maybe up to 1600oC). They often show fabulous "spinifex" textures with skeletal/dendritic crystals typical of very rapid growth, like this 2.7 billion year old one from Munro Township, Ontario. Yesterday a friend showed me this beautiful potato which was owned by her great grandfather, who had been a farmer in East Lothian. The miracle potato had survived, and been passed down the generations. 🤩😋

#SpotTheCar Back from wee visit to visit relatives in burning heat of SW England. Here's some #Rewilding in the expensive suburbs of Portishead. This entire house and garden is similarly engulfed. Very pleased with this boulder from a beach near Bunessan. The white quartz vein cuts gently across bedding and foliation in the grey metasediment, and both are cut by the later quartz-feldspar vein with pink margins.
