@vmstan @mcc Me, neither. But it seems like that article is out of date—France added a non-commercial freedom of panorama the year before it was written: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freedom_of_panorama

      Freedom of panorama
Freedom of panorama (FOP) is a provision in the copyright laws of various jurisdictions that permits taking photographs and video footage and creating other images (such as paintings) of buildings and sometimes sculptures and other art works which are permanently located in a public place, without infringing on any copyright that may otherwise subsist in such works, and the publishing of such images. Panorama freedom statutes or case law limit the right of the copyright owner to take action for breach of copyright against the creators and distributors of such images. It is an exception to the normal rule that the copyright owner has the exclusive right to authorize the creation and distribution of derivative works. History In the past, photography and other methods of visually representing public space were severely restricted, for reasons other than authors' rights. A couple of years ago, many people recommended Pirate Ship to me and it was a great suggestion—I’ve shipped hundreds of packages with it, and the service and site is a delight. Now @adamengst has gotten on the bandwagon and explains its advantages: https://tidbits.com/2024/06/20/pirate-ship-reduces-shipping-cost-and-complexity/

(Adam and my recommendation are unsolicited and unpaid!)

Folks, if you’re able and in one of the areas affected by heat: put out a cooler with ice, water, soda, and snacks, because so many delivery people and postal carriers will be coming to your door. It’s a great thing you can do to help folks who have to work in the heat to bring things to you!

@thomasfuchs But why do they care when it doesn't convince people who know who they are and their base doesn't care about Jewish people?

I don’t entirely understand who Republicans are performing for. The ones who are most in the bag for Israel, no matter how genocidal Israel is, and are currently yelling about antisemitism on college campuses, do not care about antisemitism or students or Israel as a state or Jews. Many of them are either overtly or covertly antisemitic. Who is the audience?

It just struck me what Apple got wrong with its “crushing ad.”

They thought we would identify with the iPad, not the creative instruments and materials.

@mcc AI sort of ate their business, so I guess they are returning the favor by feeding themselves to it. (I don't think LLMs provide an accurate alternative to Stack Overflow, but I think Code Pilot and other stuff shunted a lot of traffic.)
