Walz seems like a great pick for many reasons, but also because voters in the middle who say “I am not a racist but” may look at an older boring-looking [but cool] white man (he is 60, Harris 59), and say, "Oh, ok, so they are NOT radical Marxists, whew." Whatever. It’s like Walmart getting big into energy conservation and solar efficiency: take it.

In 2009, $7.25 had the buying power of $10.75. So the minimum wage is worth 35% less now. But even $10.75 an hour as a federal minimum wage is too low today. Two people working full time would make $43,000 (with two weeks each of unpaid vacation). Whatever new wage is set, it has to be indexed to the CPI.

The circle is complete: my older kid, nearly 20, is visiting the train station my father used to own in Centerville, Fremont, California. I grew up playing in the station, which was out of use and leased by my dad for use as a furniture store (Depot Maple). My older has a huge transit interest, so on a trip, I suggested he make a detour (and it fulfills his train-riding yen, too). He just texted his grandfather and I photos.

“I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.
"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.”

      Gandalf Technologies
Gandalf Technologies, Inc., or simply Gandalf, was a Canadian data communications company based in Ottawa. It was best known for modems and terminal adapters that allowed computer terminals to connect to host computers through a single interface. Gandalf also pioneered a radio-based mobile data terminal that was popular for many years in taxi dispatch systems. The rapid rise of TCP/IP relegated many of Gandalf's products to niche status, and the company went bankrupt in 1997; its assets were acquired by Mitel. History Gandalf was founded by Desmond Cunningham and Colin Patterson in 1971, and started business from the lobby of the Skyline Hotel, which is now the Crowne Plaza Hotel, on Albert Street in Ottawa. The company's first products were industrial-looking half-bridges for remote terminals which were supported by large terminal multiplexers on the "computer end". Gandalf referred to these systems as a "PACX", in analogy to the telephony PABX which provided similar services in the voice field. These systems allowed the user to "dial up" the Gandalf box and then instruct it what computer they wanted to connect to...

I would say “truly baffling” until I recall “but her emails.” Times reporters and editors have been saying publicly that this is a huge story, and everyone needs to know the state of the president’s cognitive ability. But they are acting as if it's a natural disaster while largely ignoring the obvious and more threatening cognitive decline of his opponent.

The Times simply doesn’t see it. As with WMDs, they think they are on the right side of the story.

Note that nearly everyone who immediately said Biden should stand aside were never Trumpers and crypto-Democrats (ones who claim to be but seem to have no alignment with liberal or progressive policies). If Bront Stephens is saying “step aside,” you know by definition he’s wrong.

Airlines should start offering LGBTQIA+ aware flight paths so you don't have a layover in a state that doesn’t recognize your existence or right to live.*

*Odds of this are zero on an airline site! But I wonder if a Green Book -> Pride Flag Book online site could help navigate those sorts of travel plans.

ALERT for indie makers and publishers: On July 1, USPS rates will increase from a little to a lot for packages. Make sure you update the fees on your websites and e-commerce platforms!

Media Mail is 50–60¢ more expensive (overall, not per pound) for starters. Ground Advantage jumps a couple bucks or more as part of the base price.

    https://pe.usps.com/PriceChange/Index

Use Pirate Ship et al for discounted rates—going to USPS.com will get you a better rate than the PO counter, but 3rd parties are better yet.
