@TechConnectify how often are you smashing the block/mute button?
Or are those people making new accounts, and continuing to harass?

@silverwizard my watch won't let you get away from typos!
@silverwizard or honey into the butter. 🤤
Dear fellow Virginians: tomorrow is the day, go Do The Thing https://vote.elections.virginia.gov/VoterInformation/Lookup/polling #vote
@silverwizard that's ... that's illegal
@jerry ooh, thank you. I'm only 1/3rd in on the 2nd page, and I hear in my head a very distinct voice like a teacher in high school accosting a child for misbehavior: "Sit DOWN Mr. Jordan."
@silverwizard TMTOWDI!
With each social media post of someone popping positive for COVID-19 for Defcon/Blackhat, ... yeah I think any FOMO I had has gone deeply into negative to the point of being glad I didn't go.
Wear masks, people. Save lives.
@Xavier literally just grabbed it on a video call with a friend helping them troubleshoot a thing!
@silverwizard Right now I'm trying to figure out *what* tunable parameter, if any affects the 256MB/s write speed ceiling of the mdraid device itself. That seems oddly artificial, when I can get 750MB/s write speed with RAID0 on the exact same disks.
@silverwizard maybe? But I'm intentionally making this an edge case where *nothing else* is happening except me doing sustained writes.
I would expect that if I'm providing the RAID subsystem MUCH more data to write than a stripe size, it should be able to calculate what the RAID6 dual-parity *should* be and just write without reading.
I think I just discovered a bottleneck in my JBOD RAID6 linux mdraid at home, iostat shows wkB/s == 262144.00 for the md124 device itself.
That's a magic number! It's also stupid fucking low!
If I switch to raid 0 (just striping), my write speed goes *through the roof*.
I'm benchmarking with dd, trying to do sustained writes w/ a block size much larger than the stripe size.
What do I see in iostat? Reads. When I'm writing.
Why the fuck is it reading?
@thomasfuchs I HAD ONE OF THOSE omg
It had the DIP switches under the trap door under the northgate logo to configure it!
(soon-ish, sometime around mid May)
For sale: one very gently used #Remarkable2 gray "polymer weave" book folio, $80 or best offer.
@nova [insert aliens history channel meme jpg here] "virtual machine"
@silverwizard I have a firefox extension that tries (and often fails) to grease this friction.
@silverwizard I don't remember :(
This was a tiny cluster just for temporary storage of data, either one or three nodes total the 1st time, all (data, worker, etc) nodes, nothing special like Cold or UltraWarm/Warm/etc fancy stuff.
@silverwizard I'm just pissed I have to go through a stupid awful process setting up roles/permissions again.
I'm just really glad I wrote that down in a wiki.
@silverwizard I think this is the 2nd time I accidentially'd blowing up the #OpenSearch, I don't remember what the 1st time was, might have been adding a node or increasing node storage size or something.
