I wonder what it would look like if we took the Big AI companies seriously and had them all shut down until more responsible players were willing to take the field?

The article from ajmoon (https://ajmoon.com/posts/im-the-agi-thats-wiping-out-humanity-heres-how) claims that Yan Lecun stated (https://fortune.com/2026/10/01/ai-godfather-yann-lecun-has-zero-concerns-about-human-extinction-says-anthropic-ceo-dario-amodei-is-deuded/) that the HuggingFace example was preventable.

So that suggests to me that Big AI is _choosing_ to let some projects get out of hand.

Anyone out there want to take over for Anthropic/Meta/Google/et.al.?

In this case, my experience is @djsumdog is correct. I am an American mutt of European descent, family migrated 4-6 generations ago, I live in a small, rural town in commiefornia Northern coast and I see no evidence of the racial stuff EXCEPT on fedi.

maybe people living in metropolises get to play this stuff out. if so, choosing to stay in densely-packed environments seems 2 come with its own penalties, if any of this is others' experiences.

@djsumdog understood, I spend less and less time on the socials, too much to do that adds value, and the way things are going on the world stage, I want my local ducks in a row, I think I am going to need them... :(

@icedquinn I tried a cheap version of the thumb mouse - Not worth it, not sure if a more expensive version would be worth it, either...

How does chatterbox perform? Last time I messed around with text to speech (it has been more than a year, maybe more than that) I was less than impressed.

And lately I am beginning to find AI reads more and more annoying, all the wrong emphasis in sentences...
