@graf @dcc @riker17 honestly Mastodon's scaling has been very good to me, and I'm super familiar with how to (and have made scripts for) 90% of what needs to be done. So unless there is a really compelling reason to switch, at this point I'm going to stick to Mastodon.

@makeheroism I mean I really don't want to have to do that, hence why renaming the server was my first and preferred solution. But if Adam doesn't want that to happen, then there isn't much else of a choice. It should go without saying, but it isn't what I want to happen.

"Change nothing" isn't a solution.

I proposed two remedies: rename the instance to disassociate from the show while still providing a "home" for everyone, or shutter the instance.

Adam doesn't want it to be renamed, so I don't know what solution there is other than shuttering it.

If NAS is shuttered, I will run another server and facilitate account migration.

NAS shouldn't be a punching bag.

If it doesn't give value to the show, then it shouldn't be associated with the show.

It is utterly demoralizing to read Adam's quotes above.

I host NAS v4v. If NAS isn't value, if it is the opposite and hurts the show, then what I'm doing is a waste of time.

I'm not sure what other conclusion a reasonable person is supposed to draw. It's been an open point of contention for many months.

No changes will be made without plenty of warning, so nobody should be panicking.

If NAS hurts the show, then renaming the instance or shuttering it are the only options.

I'd like to provide a "home" for everyone and maintain community, but we're all here because of the show. Renaming the instance may not be the correct course of action. Scheduled sunset and an entirely new server (for those who want) may be best.

There are no good choices, only choices I can live with.

People really ought not bash Adam. Imagine if you were in his shoes.

He doesn't want to see negative posts and on something named "No Agenda ...". He feels it hurts the show. Regardless if you agree with it or not, a reasonable person should understand that perspective.

He hasn't pulled the plug and shut NAS down. He hasn't banned accounts.

We're all here because of Adam, John, and No Agenda.

It's all good. We're all gonna make it. I'll try to make the transition as seamless as possible.

@Sophistifunk @Sabex quick, somebody look up a chart of seed oil consumption in the US, in particular showing the approval of rapeseed ("canola") oil in 1985. Oh, and glyphosate usage. And childhood vaccine schedule modifications.

I'm not sure which one caused fat + retardation, but one (or more) of them probably did.

@harvhat I'd like to do it in a seamless way so that you don't even know anything has changed and it just redirects like magic, at least for a while.

I'm just going to have to experiment a bit with some test servers to see what migration would look like.

@dcc @chanon I mean we're one of the oldest (large-ish) fedi servers in existence, so it's worked fine for at least half a decade :) and it's not as if it's coming to a close in a big fight or anything. I have no hard feelings for Adam and understand and empathize with his position completely -- I just don't want to lock out all the people who want to participate in this group and across the fediverse.

This is a super minor issue IMO. The only real problem is a technical issue :)

@chanon I don't think he's discounting anything. It's not as if he's pulled the domain and just said "SHUT IT DOWN!!!" in a fit of rage.

I think the friction has just gone on for too long. It's been at least six months and can't be healthy. I don't want this to be a continued point of contention, and moving domains seems like an easy solution as long as I can make it work technically.

@SirRoundedByMyPrivilege Ultimately it's up to him, but it seems that's the direction it has to go. Obviously NAS doesn't "spark joy" for him.

If he's disappointed/embarrassed by the posts/people here and doesn't want it associated with No Agenda by name, then this is the only viable solution.

Neither he nor I can force people to act a certain way.

I understand his sentiment and want to do my best to fix it in a way that is the least disruptive, but I'm still figuring that (technical) bit out

@SirRoundedByMyPrivilege well, my goal would be that nothing changes except the domain name. Everything else should stay the same.

Now whether I'm able to overcome the technical challenges to make that happen is a different story, but I'm happy to provide a home for all NAS members the same as I have for the last half decade or so.

@riker17 no, but I'll try to do it as quickly as I'm able after I look into ways to do it seamlessly. It may or may not be possible, but regardless I'll try to do it in a way that gives plenty of time and doesn't leave anyone out in the cold.

@istvan @adam @chanon @BlueDouche @Johncdvorak Adam deserves a LOT of credit for being an early adopter of the fediverse and bringing it to bare. I wouldn't have discovered the fediverse and wouldn't be running the server without him.

And to your point, echoed by many others, members of NAS are IMO quite normal in comparison to much of the rest of the fediverse, particularly those in the fediblock "quarantine zone". But it isn't about how you compare to others, so 🤷♂️.
