Ukraine counterattacked into Russia weeks ago, seizing about 500 square miles.
Russia has responded using its familiar tactics - bomb, bomb, bomb and bomb some more. The effect on this Russian city is no different from the effect on Ukrainian cities: rubble.
Negotiation? Pointless.
We’ve allocated $61B to support Ukraine. We’ve distributed a tiny fraction. And we continue to restrict the use of our weapons.
The NYT has called for Biden to step aside, following a poor debate.
The NYT has not called for Trump to step aside after: his sexual assault and defamation conviction with its $80m fine, his fraud conviction with its $400m disgorgement, his felony conviction with sentencing to come in a couple weeks, not to mention all of his direct reports who’ve been convicted, many of whom are in prison or recently released.
@AlbertBorneo I’m not convinced that either is senile. I’m convinced that one is a fascist while the other is shockingly good a US domestic policy. I still can’t believe that Biden changed these policies: Prescription drug prices can be negotiated by the largest buyer of drugs in the USA. Implemented much of the Green New Deal beginning our climate adaptation efforts. Infrastructure.
Each of these has been talked about for decades - really.
Thanks for stating even if it is obvious - sometimes it’s necessary to do so as we become accustomed to awful behaviors.
What I find scary is that she thinks her behavior is consistent with norms in Oklahoma - what? You think it’s normal for Oklahomans to shoot their pets? What?
I have assumed that it was “fair” to blame Nixon as the originator, particularly as the falsehood that he kicked off these policies in order to get reelected seemed accurate and truthful - it seemed to align with my understanding of his personality. I easily imagined that would be his intent.
I was wrong - he intended to reduce the suffering of returning vets who were addicted. 2/2
@freemo Thank you. I’m continually surprised by my ignorance and the ease with which I accept as fact things I read and watch….
The outcomes I was referring to relate to those delivered by decades of the “war on drugs.” In particular, the narco traffickers and the induced migration of those fleeing the resulting violence not to mention the focus on enforcement and incarceration rather than treatment and prevention.
@freemo Hmm. So the assertion that Nixon mostly did that work for political purposes, getting reelected by creating us v them, is just wrong? That was your point in this thread?
Is it fair to associate the outcomes that his policies delivered to his sponsoring them? Or, again, insufficiently nuanced?
Are Republican politicians from the Nixon era to blame for our never ending War on Drugs? I suspect that statement lacks nuance. Could you offer another statement (s) that better reflect what took place?
@tdwllms1@pkboi #this It’s such obvious bullshit. Can you imagine being the appeals attorney reduced to making this argument? You spent decades in school, training, practicing, earning the right to argue before an appeals court, and that’s what you’ve got? Or his other one about how courts don’t sit in judgment of presidents yet in the next breath that same decision notes presidents can be criminally prosecuted? Im embarrassed for him and I don’t even know him.
