    @goatsarah We can see that even in the other side of the world. Once upon a time we heard only SSBE on Radio New Zealand and I was taught it. Now we hear many variations of English pronunciation, including Asian variations and local variations—Māori and Pacific. Our English D-I-L is a case in point. Still has remnants of her childhood London accent—certainly not SSBE—and welcome presenting on RNZ. I love it. It represents our changing society.

    @AgathaSorceress So, it's not just me! Although I find my laptop pairing to the wrong ear things -- buds when i want the headphones, and headphones when I want the buds. And something is in another room. Convenient as, eh?

    @goatsarah It’s also interesting observing this from a former British colony where many social justice issues are largely the consequences of historical (and ongoing) conflict between European settlers and indigenous people. A very different lense. US cultural hegemony is very strong but it regularly clashes with the way we see the world.
