Wow! I wish I could hang my blackness at the door so I wouldn't have to worry about just plain existing in this red town! I bet my wife wishes she could hang her being a child that benefitted from birthright citizenship at the door before the storm troopers come looking for people like her. I bet my daughter would hang her gayness at the door so that her bigot in-law parents treated her with respect.

@mekkaokereke Honestly, my perspective was a selfish desire to be part of something "before it was cool" if you know what I mean. However, I very seriously feel a huge problem w/social media is how disinfo is spread on it. If my concern with Bsky is a higher probability of profit thru disinfo there, then I should also be more concerned that people aren't coming here instead. I should want it to be safe and to be desired place to be so history doesn't repeat.

I'll admit I was one of the ones who said "let them eat (Bluesky flavored) cake!" as I've personally been okay over here so far on Mastodon (though this trust and safety thing is something I'd like to learn more about).

The thing is, I've lived through AOL, Myspace, Facebook, and Reddit (Twitter just wasn't for me) and I can't help but notice this pattern of social media owned by billionaires and enshittification/disinfo coming it to ruin them. Is that not a valid concern?

A war is being waged against us all, and we need to turn our focus to it, because we are losing.

I'm a firm believer that there is no "bright side" to the next four years, but if there's one thing that might be our saving grace, it's that Trump has had a falling out with most of the right wingers that had any competence or expertise during Cirque du Orange I and will be stacking his next cabinet based on one characteristic far beyond any other: Loyalty.

With any luck, some of his worst policies may never be realized simply due to incompetence.

In 2001, I swore to defend the Constitution and the freedom of The People of the United States. 9/11 happened a month after I started basic training, and in 2003 I spent 5 months in the middle east doing my duty.

22 years later, The People thanked the service of veterans like me by voting in a draft dodging insurrectionist who has threatened to suspend the Constitution and who just loves to cozy up with our enemies.
