In the den. Straight up "jammin to it". And by "it", haha, well. Let's just say, keygen music.

@lanodan I think it makes sense: 4*4 == 4+4+4+4 so it follows that "a"*4 == "a"+"a"+"a"+"a"
This also works with arrays, and most other things that use the + operator for concatenation.
Of course, if the language used some other operator than + for concatenation, it makes sense to have a different operator for repetition. -

@mgorny Crazy how fast things move in gentoo land when compilation times are involved 😅.
Awesome progress to see, probably one of the better QOL features of recent times. -

TIL you can drag a URL from the #firefox address bar into #KDE 's dolphin file manager, and select "link here". It will create a .desktop file that's a URL link, converting any "/" into the "⁄" character in the filename.
I wonder if this works with other file managers/browsers.

I'm a bit saddened by how the #javascript #nodejs ecosystem is just like #java and #csharp, in that their package managers only ship the compiled form of the software, with no common way to build things from source without depending on more binary modules.
I've been trying to package "copyparty", and finding out how it has a precompiled "hash-wasm" module, and rebuilding it depends on typescript, rollup, and their hundreds of dependencies which may or may not contain more wasm, who knows?

@ska The more annoying part of that to me is that it's not always predictable what they'll do, they don't really explain themselves, or how to undo the changes they've made.
Finding them at least is just typing "setup-<TAB><TAB>" -

Someone recently tried to convince me that allowing native (i.e. outside of the ART) code execution on #android is the reason why #sideloading is so dangerous.
They meant that only native libraries can escape the java sandbox and attack buffer overflows and such in system calls and other parts of the runtime.
This perspective has thrown me for a spin.

Cursed shell snippet to print a string N amount of times:
```
N=10
test $N -eq 0 || seq $N | xargs printf 'apple'%.0s
```
completely posix compliant :) -

@mattl @rl_dane If you're using X11, you should change the font DPI, and apps will scale their UI accordingly.

@lanodan @julia @Rairii I suppose java objects and some others might be the exception, as really the ecosystem doesn't make it easy to properly rebuild everything, but as the top of the page states, the DFSG requires source code to be available for everything shipped in the distro, and stripping blobs from source archives is part of that goal. Debian doesn't ship source-less blobs outside of the "non-free" repo.

@lanodan @julia @Rairii I expect distros like debian have removed those from the source tarball... Not like java and c# are very auditable as an ecosystem anyway.

@xgqt oh wow, the main reason I packaged dotnet for gentoo at the time (and dropped it later) was osu!lazer. Unfortunately, you can't use a custom build online, and osu depends on too many nuget prebuilts (and a closed source audio library) for a non-bin gentoo package to make sense. Glad someone else picked it up!
The screenshot is of osu!stable running on WINE, though :P
I haven't upgraded yet.https://gitweb.gentoo.org/repo/gentoo.git/tree/games-arcade/osu-lazer/osu-lazer-2025.101.0.ebuild

I finally published a 2025 release of my #gentoo ISO. It's a bootable desktop screenshot, with the exact same configuration as my current rice, allowing you to not just look at it but also play with it. Check it out!
