Some personal news: For the last couple of months, I've been an advisor to @subclub - a new Fediverse platform for paid subscriptions! The team is next-level talented and share my vision for bringing everyone to the open social web.
I'm so excited to be part of this mission to help fund instance owners and also usher in creators from closed platforms to ones where they own their audience and their content, while sharing across numerous platforms.
I'm also honored to be one of the first people to have a @subclub 🤩! Check out @quillmatiq@sub.club to become a premium subscriber! I'll be sharing projects I'm working on, giving you early access to them, and more.
Absolutely no pressure to subscribe, but your support would be greatly appreciated 🫶🏼 (3/3)
For the last few issues of 'Human-Generated Content,' I explored the impact of AI on the human web, so there wasn't enough space to discuss the #Fediverse.
@BeAware And with their latest update, you can follow Fediverse users *without* needing to federate - you only need to federate if you want to engage. It's a really cool way to let people dip their toes into this world without needing to fully commit on day one.
I wrote about @Flipboard's next major step in becoming a part of the #Fediverse - letting users follow anyone on Mastodon, PixelFed, or any other federated service (including federated Threads accounts!) *without* needing to federate!
I think this is a really smart way of letting folks dip their toes in the open social web without needing to commit to it 👏🏼
Flipboard is so close 🤏🏼 to fully federating, and I'm so excited!
"They've decided to invest in their own technology using open protocols rather than depend on proprietary systems. At this point, if you're not looking at these publishers as social web platforms that are hosting hand-picked bloggers, podcasters, and content creators with a publisher's infrastructure, you're not paying attention."
In this week's edition of my newsletter, "Human-Generated Content":
"If we ignore the truth - which is a really weird thing to ignore - there's another major problem here: what I see here is the further consolidation of the media industry."
Some publishers are choosing AI while others are choosing the #Fediverse. You know where my bets are 🌐
I wrote about how Patreon needs to join the #Fediverse:
"Why would a creator send their audience to a third-party platform when Instagram and Threads can be a one-stop-shop with their existing followers while having access to new paid subscribers across the social web?
Patreon can no longer just be the place where creators are paid, it needs to be a place where creators can be discovered. And it cannot do that as a social silo."
