Apple Card has more than 12 million cardholders. Users earned more than $1 billion in Daily Cash from spending on Apple Card last year. Assuming average of 1.5% Daily Cash, spending is over $66.6 billion or $5.5k per user per year.
If Tesla means EVs in the U.S., in China, BYD does the same. Initially a maker of phone batteries, BYD released its first electric car in 2009. When asked about BYD in an interview two years later, Elon Musk flat-out laughed at the company, saying, “I don’t think they have a great product.” And yet in Q4 2023, BYD surpassed Tesla to become the biggest EV seller in the world. BYD has reportedly about 90,000 employees in just their R&D division, compared with Tesla’s 128,000 employees total.

December retail sales out Wednesday showed US consumer spending continued to prove resilient to round out 2023, pushing back against fears economic growth stalled in the year's final months.

Apple’s market share increased modestly from 19% in 2022 to 20% in 2023, Samsung decreased from 22% in 2022 to 19% in 2023, while Xiaomi remained flat at 13%. Looking at fourth quarter only, Market share for Apple increased modestly to 24.7% in 4Q23, vs. 24.0%.
The Boring Company has raised more than $795 million from venture capitalists on Musk’s big idea: underground, multi-station roadways where autonomous vehicles could shoot off individuals to their destination at speeds of 150 miles per hour. But on the ground, after 7 years, Boring is operating a mere 2.4mi of tunnel. Meanwhile Boring projects from California to Illinois, Texas, Florida, and Maryland have all fizzled or been disbanded.

After a decade, Apple still hasn’t introduced an Apple car. Huawei and Xiaomi, whose phones battle the iPhone for supremacy in China, both released new cars this week. The companies’ goal is to keep their phone customers engaged in high-tech vehicles and seize turf before Apple’s possible entry into the fray. What about Samsung, Sony and uh, Google?
