Earplugs to reduce stress from dentist tool sounds. Why did I never think of that? I use them for shopping and other loud environments, but hadn't ever considered the dentist. Brilliant. I'll keep that one in mind.
Oooh, another good idea. I'm trying to re-learn Japanese after having learned some in high school and then forgotten most of it, but I am very bad at self-motiviating to do things, even when I want to do them. Keeping a regular diary of just a few sentences a day sounds like a great way to keep up with language practice, and drill common words and grammar into my head.
I really need to get around to watching that movie. My "I really must watch this" list and my "I really must read this" list are both always increasing, much faster than I can keep up with them.
@lookitmychicken@YiboSemiDaily Mostly I'd like some kind of context, because they're sitting down for a meal in a very normal way, but there's a fully-kitted-out boxer, and a mythological monkey dude, and I can't tell much about the figure really close in the foreground, but they look interestingly costumed. So yes, some sort of explanation would be welcome please.
@lookitmychicken A couple of days ago I was VERY tempted to buy some tealight candle holders because they were in the same fandom colours as a Thai GL acting partnership I like. They weren't actually fandom merch, but my brain decided they were anyway. I couldn't get them because they were sold out. But I should probably also not be left in charge of my own money. 😅
@lookitmychicken This is me but with blog posts I'm definitely going to write one day about this really fascinating thing that I started to learn about and I bought all these books and saved all these articles so I could really read up on the subject and then write a reall well-researched and informative and interesting blog post about it, and
@lookitmychicken So yeah. I have a lot of unread books and articles about a bunch of really interesting things that I would like to learn more about and then write about and, uh, not many actual completed blog posts. I actually don't think I've updated any of my blogs in about a decade tbh.
@lookitmychicken I have a few times come across instrumental covers of songs and gone "Oh, I LOVE this!" and looked up the original, only to discover that the original had lyrics and I much prefer the 'just music' version.
Also a few songs in languages I don't speak, where I love the way the song sounds, both the music and the singing, but the meaning of the lyrics leaves me uninspired.
@lookitmychicken Yeah, I think a lot of people are like that, more likely to let things slide when it just affects themselves but ready to throw hands if it affects someone they care about.
I wonder sometimes if that might be a useful angle to take when trying to get people to be more polite to each other online (and offline). Instead of trying the empathy angle of "If you'd be upset to have this said/done to you, don't say/do it to others" go with "If you'd get mad about someone saying/doing this to your bestie, don't say/do it to someone else". I think at least some people would stop and think about their words and actions more if they framed them that way. I don't know if it would make a real difference though.
@lookitmychicken Thanks for the explanation, that was pretty much what I was guessing it must have been. I have seen WAY too many so-called 'fans' being pushy, entitled and rude, and treating their idols like their own personal playthings instead of real people. It's such sickening behaviour. I can understand an idol getting defensive and pulling back in the face of that kind of treatment.
