I know I cannot be the only one who goes through the following cycle:

    * I become interested in a thing.
    * I want to make fanworks about the thing.
    * I start collecting source material about the thing.
    * There is a lot of source material.
    * I start organising my collection of source material.
    * I find more ways to categorise and label and sort my collection of source material.
    * The gathering and organising of source material expands to fill all available space.
    * I cannot keep up with my own aspirations for gathering and organising source material.
    * I give up.
    * Somehow I never make the fanwork.
    * I become interested in a new thing...

My #skz hashtag index thread keeps growing and I keep finding new things I want to hashtag.

But then for each new hashtag theme, I feel compelled to document any suitable occurrences that I stumble across. And also to review all my previous posts to add the hashtag when it's relevant.

My *intention* is to use these hashtags to find the clips I want to use in compilation videos, when I finally figure out how to make compilation videos.

But every time I try to figure out how to make compilation videos, I get stuck because it's hard for me to figure it out.

(Apparently it's a lot easier in the apple ecosystem?? but I'm never going to use the apple ecosystem so I gotta figure it out with windows tools.)

(I'm using #DaVinciResolve (after having tried a few different tools) and have not yet managed to get far enough through any tutorial to have any finished product. Ugh my BRAIN why have you forsaken me.)

Anyway I need to get over myself and make some bad youtube shorts that are poorly edited. Even just a single chunk of footage. If I can crop something and add a text overlay and hit the publish button on my youtube channel, that will be sufficient.

Can I challenge myself to publish at least one thing a week? No matter how bad?

      I will do that.

@villainousfriend I *know* you produce actual fanworks though! I've seen them 😆

      okay I made a plan!

i'm going to publish a short video this weekend, no matter how shit it is.

Made a list of things I need to learn in order to do this, and it's shorter than I thought it was.

In the next 2 days, I will learn how to:
      - Crop and clip a segment of video to suit the YouTube shorts format
      - Add a caption to the video
      - Publish it to my YouTube channel as a short

I'll upload the video before this Sunday night, yep yep I will do this.

and then I'm going to keep publishing at least one short video every week, no matter how shit it is. and then we'll see what happens after that.

I made a list of other things to sort out, and other related skills I want to learn, so I can work through that list whenever I get stuck on how I cannot yet do *all* the things.

(If there was a good fediverse place to post fan-edit videos, I'd post it there as well. But I don't think there is, as yet. Blorbo's not really suitable for anything more than the briefest video clips, and it's not optimised for video. There's peertube, but I don't think there are any fandom-flavoured peertube instances.)

@lookitmychicken okay, that’s fair, but (a) you should see my beautifully organised ebook and PDF library, how many hours I’ve spent on it, and just how many books/papers I still have to categorise; (b) somehow I’m at school in China right now? Because in 2020 I wanted to watch a cute queer show with my girlfriend? 😅 idk how this happened 🤓

@TheOtherDibbler do you find that the process still feels worthwhile, even if there isn't yet the end product that you had intended to create?

I'm starting to think about the concept of *process* knitting versus *product* knitting. Some knitters mostly knit because they want the finished items. Others mostly want to experience the process of knitting, and aren't as attached to the finished products.

I'm very much a process knitter. I like it when people ask me to knit things for them. I can enjoy the process of knitting and then release the items to new owners when done.

Maybe that's similar to how I engage with other special interests?? I am more focused on the process than the product.

Right now I feel anxious that there aren't *any* finished products, in terms of what I'd originally envisaged.

But maybe the process can be enjoyable and worthwhile anyway, even if there's never an obvious finished product??

@lookitmychicken So yeah. I have a lot of unread books and articles about a bunch of really interesting things that I would like to learn more about and then write about and, uh, not many actual completed blog posts. I actually don't think I've updated any of my blogs in about a decade tbh.

@lookitmychicken This is me but with blog posts I'm definitely going to write one day about this really fascinating thing that I started to learn about and I bought all these books and saved all these articles so I could really read up on the subject and then write a reall well-researched and informative and interesting blog post about it, and
