@spacehost_help@spacehost.team so I'm moving out of this account. Firefish won't allow me to move an admin account. So I need to creat an admin, and demote my current account before I can migrate followers. The only way to create an admin account is to make changes to the database from the shell.
@spacehost_help@spacehost.team I need some help. I'd like to migrate off of and close down my single user instance of FireFish back to a mastodon instance.
But I can't redirect my account to transfer followers because my account is the admin for the instance. What's the best way to do this? Can I add an additional user and transfer admin privileges so I can decommission the instance?
@evan@cosocial.ca@seanbala@mas.to I read a completely unrelated article that pointed out that silicon valley culture and VCs by extension assume that anything that already exists is inferior. Silicon Valley has done a lot of things in its innovation history. Early on, it did tremendous work with electronics and physical computers. More recently, it has exploited the internet mercilessly to both destroy and create value chains where data of any form was moving around or persisting. Quite a lot of what the Valley has done is destroy capital, but it has created some amazing firms and attracted a lot of talent. Some of the firms are even good things for humanity and many of the people try to have their hearts in the right places. And in the Valley, if something already exists there’s a strong tendency to think it’s obsolete and that novel things are by definition better.https://cleantechnica.com/2023/11/30/what-drives-this-madness-on-small-modular-nuclear-reactors/
@patrickcmiller@infosec.exchange one risk I didn't see was that if you have all of your accounts tied to one provider you are at a very severe risk of having that account disabled and losing everything. You are one trust and safety decision away from losing access.
@evan@cosocial.ca not a lawyer, but I think that it would depend on what he was willing to plead guilty to. I don't think that he has information they want, but they would be willing to not have to risk a trial.
But I doubt he's dispositionally inclined to admit guilt.
