@CloudyMrs There's a lot to unpack with Farage, but I remain utterly perplexed as to how anyone can listen to a public school educated millionaire ex-stockbroker rant about "the elite" and "the establishment" and think him in any way credible.
The only way the opposition/media can deal with this is to badmouth devolved services (mainly health and education, with a few ferries thrown in) and play the old "English subsidy" card. Can't have the English electorate realise they're being shortchanged or they might start asking awkward questions.
@CloudyMrs@simon_brooke I think that often, the ignorance or dismissing of a "Scottish viewpoint" comes from a Unionist tactic to deny that there is a Scottish identity, as such. They paint Britain as a single, homogenous country, thus implying that dividing off parts of it via independence or reunification is pointless at best, damaging at worst.
Politicians will do this consciously, and the London media generally just accept it by osmosis.
@MediaActivist A few years ago I saw TV interview with a psychologist (and vegan) regarding the hostility vegans often faced. He said (paraphrased) that it was a known phenomenon that when people are confronted (even passively) with a situation where their actions don't fit their own values (i.e. their cognitive dissonance), they will often respond aggressively as a sort of internal defence mechanism.
@ottocrat "We were told Brexit was not going to impact our life abroad". No, you just *chose to ignore* the people who said otherwise. That's a very different thing.
