@goatsarah and half of that millions are writign stupid posts like you, just praising Mastodon and not adding any value to the service.
The other half are posting about how bad twitter and elon musk are.
That's it.

@goatsarah @BarrenPlanet what's the point of following people just to unfollow them later? I look through a profile and decide if I need to follow someone.
I would really love to see people with those interesting posts you are talking about but Mastodon doesn't allow seeing other people's following lists. I only see 7 random people out of your garden. It makes things even harder. Sometimes I find someone I like and want to follow people they like. It's not possible :(
@goatsarah I've been on twitter for 12 years and I've been using internet since my childhood. I've been on social networks in 2000s and always found lots of friends.
The only different is that people used to post art, food, stuff they like, etc. Internet was very innocent.
Now people are posting politics and how they hate politicians/millionaires and making their whole persona be based on that. They don't even mix it with a more feel-good content. That's the problem, not some 'refined sugar'
@goatsarah Mastodon also limits who you can see. I mentioned I can browse through other people's followers to follow them. I can't read some accounts because they are on another server (even when someone recommends them). It's never been an issue on Twitter or other socials. You could follow and read whomever you wanted
The problem is that Mastodon isn't a finished project, it doesn't work properly, so it's hard to use it. Problem is definitely not in users. Because users are never the problem.
@goatsarah @BarrenPlanet I would end up having garbage in my home feed if I just follow everyone. I'm interested in topics that are not covered on Mastodon, so I don't have much people to follow.
and I didn't get used to being told what I should be reading. I still use standard timeline for twitter, but people are writing something there. People here are writing for two days and then leave forever.
@BarrenPlanet
1. I'm talking exactly about local feed, because I don't follow many people to expect anything in my Home feed
2. There's no algorithms but admins are choosing posts for Explore tab, and on my server they are all very political, and based on hate-read of Twtter and Elon Musk, so there is certain 'serving' of the content and agenda (unfortunately)
@Sheril @feditips idk anything about ongoing coversation. Most of the tweets ion Federated or Explore are about Elon Musk and Twitter. It all looks like a silly anti-fan club (aka hate club) that is almost impossible to use (I've been here for 9 months and I still have no idea how to search for people I'd like to read)
@feditips omg thank you for this post. I've been here since november and it's the first useful post I've seen - the first time I come close to understanding how to use this plac
