    @BarrenPlanet
    1. I'm talking exactly about local feed, because I don't follow many people to expect anything in my Home feed

    2. There's no algorithms but admins are choosing posts for Explore tab, and on my server they are all very political, and based on hate-read of Twtter and Elon Musk, so there is certain 'serving' of the content and agenda (unfortunately)

@zimowski @BarrenPlanet You’ve got to follow people. All social media was like this when it started. People have got used to being told what they should be reading.

Just follow people. Start by following pretty much everyone you interact with until you get a decent amount of content, and then prune.

@zimowski @BarrenPlanet There are over a million regularly active users here. My timeline is utterly full of people posting interesting, entertaining, thoughtful stuff.

I don’t know how people can say this more clearly. Just follow people.

Then prune later. It’s like a garden. You have to cultivate it, and yes, that includes weeding.

But if you do t follow people, it’ll just stay brown and barren.

@goatsarah @BarrenPlanet I would end up having garbage in my home feed if I just follow everyone. I'm interested in topics that are not covered on Mastodon, so I don't have much people to follow.

and I didn't get used to being told what I should be reading. I still use standard timeline for twitter, but people are writing something there. People here are writing for two days and then leave forever.

@zimowski @BarrenPlanet “What’s the point in planting this cherry tree if I am going to have to prune it later?”

Follow people. Just follow people. They will boost other people. You will start seeing stuff from the people they interact with. Some of it will be stuff you find interesting. Follow those people. Repeat.

How do people make friends out there in real life? You’re doing the internet equivalent of sitting in your flat and complaining that everyone else seems to be having parties.

Twitter, Facebook et al are shoving people in your face because they want money, either from you, or by selling you to advertisers.

Pretty much none of us want your money, nor do we want to monetise you for demographic data. We’re doing this because we enjoy it.

But that also means we aren’t going to spoon feed you. If you want to be spoon fed, there exist other networks for that, for now anyway. They seem to be falling to bits as they discover it doesn’t actually work as a long term business model, but whatever.

@goatsarah @BarrenPlanet what's the point of following people just to unfollow them later? I look through a profile and decide if I need to follow someone.

I would really love to see people with those interesting posts you are talking about but Mastodon doesn't allow seeing other people's following lists. I only see 7 random people out of your garden. It makes things even harder. Sometimes I find someone I like and want to follow people they like. It's not possible :(

@goatsarah @BarrenPlanet Idk what you are talking about. Twitter isn't shoving anything in my face. You can easily block people there, filter out words or even switch to classic timeline where you only see people you follow. I'm long enough online not to post any personal data, so they don't have anything to collect from me either

I don't want to be spoon fed, you are always changing the topic to make me look stupid and passive. But Im actively looking though hastags and people to find someone
