I've never seen so many people excited about getting their Covid vaccines since the first ones came out years ago. So many celebratory posts!

Feeling sorry for fans of TikTok. It seems there’s a deal in the works that involves some of the worst tech folks; it would shift 80 percent ownership to "an investor consortium including Oracle, Silver Lake, and Andreessen Horowitz." I'd never head Silver Lake, but it's a private equity firm.

Also, although China would keep the algorithm, licensing it to the US, it might need to create a new version for the US — and might need to train the US algorithm on only US user data.

And now I'm feeling sorry for all of us in the US, TikTok users or not. Instead of worrying about China using TikTok for influence, now we would get to worry about how the right wing will do that.

As @tchambers wrote, “TikTok’s enshitification with its new right wing owners may accelerate as fast as X’s did.”

But nothing is final yet.

Is anyone interested in what Apple is rumored to be announcing next week? No small phone, it seems (thin doesn’t count), so they have nothing targeted at me, a woman whose pants pockets, when they exist at all, are pretty small. Fortunately, I’m still happy with my iPhone SE.

Also given how Apple is sucking up to Trump it’s hard to want to give the company any more of my business.

Now firefighters are getting arrested.

"Over three hours, federal agents demanded identification from the members of two private contractor crews. The crews were among the 400 people including firefighters deployed to fight the wildfire, the largest active blaze in Washington state."

Good Covid vaccination news for seniors like me. Not so good for everyone else.

"The new shots from Pfizer, Moderna and Novavax are approved for all seniors. But the Food and Drug Administration narrowed their use for younger adults and children to those with at least one high-risk health condition, such as asthma or obesity. That presents new barriers to access for millions of Americans who would have to prove their risk — and millions more who may want to get vaccinated and suddenly no longer qualify."
