People think of GPS as giving lat/lon coords, but it actually calculates X/Y/Z relative to the center of the Earth, then converts them according to the WGS84 datum[1] into lat/lon and altitude.
However in aviation, the primary altitude measure for navigation remains the classic barometric pressure-based altimeter.
At lower altitudes, you calibrate the instrument relative to readings from a local airfield; at higher altitudes everyone uses a standard calibration.
@lain keeping at least some money in the company is actually great! That means it's able to achieve its goals better.
But I've never been convinced that turning over control of society to rampant price speculators has been anything but a disaster, and I'd prefer any such speculation to be removed from the incentive structures.
it's weird that investors care about stock prices instead of dividend payouts
it's almost like they have no desire to be *investors in a business* because the stock market promises MAGIC MONEY FROM NOWHERE through speculation on the stock certificates themselves
@evan I'm mostly just being grumpy. ;) But in general a lot of communities will just not really want to be as visible to that sort of thing, and that should be _fine_
(On the other hand loads of people like having really big networks on a big tent, so there's a legit place for services that help people connect. Don't let my whims make decisions! :D)
The old German spiked leather helmets (Pickelhaube) were replaced during WWI with the steel helmet (Stahlhelm) used through WWII, with its distinctive visor and flared back.
The East Germans replaced it in the 1950s with a different style in part because West German border guards were still using the old helmets[1].
Eventually the West Germans adopted a copy of the US M1 helmet, so nobody got mistaken for a Nazi and everybody could still tell who to shoot.
when those "Lime" scooters came out with the same logo I literally had to search on Google and Wikipedia to confirm that they were unrelated companies and not some kind of zombie necro market pivot
