If you have to proclaim yourself to be a "good white person" then you're probably not a good person.

Anyway, white people, I know it's hard when you want to help but feel helpless, but DO NOT DO THIS. Do not make your feelings of helplessness about white supremacy into the problem of whatever BIPOC has alerted you to the issue.

It's not enough to "be anti-sexism and anti-racism." You must declare that, BUT, you must also test your actions against reality to see if your actions match your intentions. Harris was afforded the opportunity to test his actions against his intentions years ago and decided that his intentions are enough, and that he could ignore the testimony of those affected by his actions.

I just provided you with evidence that he is sexist and racist. It should not be shocking that, with racism and sexism being unpopular, racists and sexists often deny their proclivities in public.

If you are OK with racism and sexism but find preemptive nuclear strike advocacy to be a dealbreaker, then fuck you. It's some old Bill Maher episodes, if you really care, but your remarks here are hinting to me that you don't give a fuck.

The fact that Sam Harris still has cachet in the science communications community speaks poorly of that community's ability to communicate with marginalized peoples. Sam Harris is sexist and has explicitly endorsed and argued for racist policies such as racial profiling of all people who "look Muslim" (he includes himself in this, which does not, contra him, make it OK) as well as preemptive nuclear strikes against Muslim countries.

I would not trust this sort of person to provide a reasonable or useful perspective on consciousness. @ScienceCommunicator

Sam Harris also tried hard to rehabilitate Charles Murray's "race science", in essence, by pulling a "facts don't care about your feelings" on Murray's critics--except Murray's books are full of racist lies, not facts.

Zero mentions of climate change. Zero attempts to situate economics within ecological reality. One half-hearted attempt at dealing with the contradiction between valuing individual liberties and tolerating capitalism, with no mention of the role this contradiction has played in the ebb and flow of governmental protections for said liberties, and a suggestion that we may need to wait another century before the ones being currently rolled back are restored.

Liberalism may have worked in the past (for whom?), but nothing in this suggests it will in the future.
