I'm not sure the media knows this by the way they're carrying on about the possibility of falling house prices but people being able to afford housing is objectively a good thing there is literally nothing bad about that

Ah dang it's just past 11:30pm and I just discovered one of the drives in my 2-bay mirrored NAS has died ... not ideal timing.

OK, luckily there's "only" about 900GB of files, videos and photos, etc. that I really would prefer not to lose, so I'm doing a transfer of those to a spare drive I have (yes I know I probably should have some kind of additional cloud backup, I'm in the middle of scoping out some kind of glacier storage or something) and then I should probably get some sleep. I'll have to source a new drive tomorrow! Night friends. Wish the transfer luck and also that the other drive doesn't die overnight! 🤞

This morning's car-brain related adventures involves a two lane road with a dedicated designated bike lane, so this dude in the far lane drives past me riding in the bike lane, beeps at me and gestures that I should be riding on the footpath. Mate, there's a full car lane between us, how does me riding in a designated bike path impact you in any way? I swear. Some people.

I saw a video the other day explaining our persistence in performing the rituals of continual economic growth year after year by likening it to the Cargo Cults that formed in the Pacific after WWII.

We're going through the motions of consumption, consumerism, and expansion, hoping that mid-century prosperity drops from the sky again.

It's like we're treating infinite growth as a law of nature, a gift from our ancestors, completely ignoring that the system we're running is entirely incompatible with the physical constraints of the world we live in.
