#israel is building a new road in Northern Gaza. UK & US have assisted Zionists' land grab schemes over 100 years. #gaza has oil and natural gas. All that will end up in the hands of British Petroleum and Israel. How many times will the world ignore Palestinians’ right to self determination? None of this violence and stealing would have happened without the US help.
I detest racism, xenophobia and ethnonationalism. Why are the ultra-right everywhere obsess about vilifying and dehumanizing others? What’s their problem?
I agree with Liz Cheney that the US is sleep-walking into dictatorship. Europe will have to rely on this dictatorship for its security. Will European democracy survive? What will be the global impact of the second Trump Administration? Withdrawal of military support for Ukraine, no restraint on Israel, sweet deals with Saudi dictatorship, political support for extreme ethnonationalists in Europe & India?
@ja_herre@PopovaProf oh, well. Difficult to feel sorry for Le Pen. It’s good that not all radical left types can emulate Meloni. Meloni was smart not to take money from Russians.
@JapanProf Indeed. I saw an article in passing that talked precisely about Le Pen taking very careful notes. For one, Le Pen should reassess her pro-Putin stance
@PopovaProf I never ever thought that Giorgio Meloni would be so moderate. I was totally taken by surprise once her party won big and she became PM. I used to live in Italy and I would see her on TV saying things like “I’m a proud fascist”! Who would have thought she would become a center-right PM? Italian politics is fascinating (remember Berlusconi’s circus and the 5S movement). Let’s wait and see what Marine Le Pen would do.
Here's the video of Yusuke Narita (Yale) in a symposium in Japan (in Japanese). He admits he's no expert on social security systems, but very confidently proposes 'mass suicides' as an effective solution to do away with social security systems. He talked about mass suicides with young kids as well. In a different video, Narita clarifies that he thinks of mass suicide as a real solution and not as metaphor contrary to what he told NYT. #Japan
@Narako someone teaching in an American university should have known better. He probably thought that Yale University and his American econ colleagues would never find out whatever he was saying in the Japanese media in Japanese.
The Self Defense Forces (=Military) in Japan has been request municipalities to provide them with the list of residents who turned 18 along with their personal information such as birthday/year and current addresses. Apparently, they are using the lists for recruitment purposes. According to a Japanese legal scholar, there is no law that allows the ministry to make such a request of municipal governments. #Japan Where's the civilian control of the military?????
@taiyo well, people like him are so used to meeting with business leaders who are old. What PM Abe failed to see or didn’t care are those who only have national people’s pension rather than Employees’ pension. The level of national people’s pension is lower than the payout of public assistance program. Now that most elderly live by themselves, they don’t have enough to live off. That’s why we see so many old people cleaning toilets everywhere in #Japan.
Political scientist--Comparative Politics (Europe & East Asia). Spent half the 2010s in Turin, Italy. My research covers welfare states, varieties of capitalism, demographic aging and gender issues. A bi-cultural product of Japan & Galicia (Spain). I boost stories that I agree with or don't agree with but find intriguing as a memo for myself.
