We had an event last night at a low income housing community here in Olympia. We brought some Nixbooks, gave them away and showed people how to use them.

These people are NOT technical and still all said that Nixbook was far easier to use than any other computer they had used in the past.

All these laptops were headed for the scrapyard, but now thanks to Linux are out there changing peoples lives. :)

Apologies for my previous snarky post about boycotting the #linux kernel because meta contributed to it.

Truth is, I'm having a really hard time with existing in the world at large right now. There is so much wrong with the world and esp the US.

I've always seen this community as a sanctuary from all that.

So it broke my brain to see the community picking a fight with @frameworkcomputer when it feels like it's the last nice thing we have.

But apologies if I came off dismissive or rude

@mattly yeahhh and the macos Tahoe welcome screen had this super cheesy liquid glass intro.

Honestly, It looked so cheap and cheesy I would have thought it was a joke.

It's pretty clear apple lacks design leadership right now.

This is my first time experiencing "liquid glass" in #macOS , and I gotta say... It's a little cringe.

And if you thought the corner radius in #Gnome was bad...

They got a few things right, but man does this make me happy I'm on #Linux

Trying to puzzle something out. I want to self host some full length movies I've downloaded / ripped (legally of course) but want to have my kids be able to stream them on their iPads. And want it to remember the position in the movie they were at.

What's the best way to do this. Is this a job for #Jellyfin ? #linux #SelfHosting

Hmm wondering if anyone can help me with a #linux question.

I'm running #nixos with #gnome 48, and even though I disabled automatic updates and notifications in Gnome Software.. still, every day, I get a notification saying "Updates are out of date" (even though when i click on it, it shows no updates)

Oddly enough, this is also happening on my project #nixbook , which is cinnamon (but still running gnome software)

How can I stop this!?!?!

@killyourfm I can only imagine. I've done some endurance multi day cycling and it leaves me feeling a way too. Both physically and emotionally.

Do you find it deeply healing though? As if these emotions had to come out at some point
